nope no ash, which is funny 'cause that's what i favored pre-fodera.

all mahogony and walnut bodies. ebony, rosewood and maple fingerboards.

i actually fantasize about having an ash-bodied fodera, fingerboard undetermined. i'msrill intrigued by what tulip wood sounds like . . . but first i have to have some money.

well, back in 85, fodera seemed to be doing walnut and i trusted that they knew what they were doing. . . so i went with it, even though i was pretty commited to rosewood/ash.

my ebony boards are mostly on mahogony.

I've always liked ebony for fretless..especially on neck- throughs. You get back a touch of definition that came with frets but it still can "swell" and be very responsive as a fretless to the touch. Any unwanted high end can be easily rolled back too. All just IMO.

When choosing mine, i was trying achieve some tonal goals(as you), when Im building my basses it was always to get that sonic depth(full spectrum)...I always found that through all my gear ... i could always produce, mids, highs etc...but i really couldnt get the depth thang...until i started ordering custom basses specially chambered.
I have a custom FBass AC6 in production now.

Oh, I've thought about it...especially since the top is a gorgeous piece of Braz:

I had brw on my Monarch and ended up selling it. Amazing bass, but at least on that instrument, with alder body, it didn't quite have the sparkle up top that I want sometimes. Ebony has that ping that can be exactly what I want, but every once in a while I second guess myself. In the end, I came back to what Jason and I talked about in the first place - replicating as much as possible the woods on the YYD. For a long time I've considered myself more of an alder/rw guy rather than ash/maple. At least before I started playing Foderas. For fretless, ebony is always my choice, but fretted, before the YYS, it was mostly rw or with my Zon, phenowood (which is probably closest to ebony). The YYS changed my mind about a lot of things. The chambered walnut YYD was the first they'd done and I love it. I got hooked on chambered instruments with my Rob Allens and it continues with the Foderas.

Hey nostatic, I gather that you're a Steely Dan fan from the band you play in... me too. Have you seen the recent outtakes and demos that have popped up on youtube lately? There's some pretty incredible stuff from the Gaucho & Katy Lied sessions. Not to mention some spectacular bass playing from Chuck.

Well, who's going to snag that olive 4 string emperor from the Fodera store? Marked down over 2 grand today to 7k for a gorgeous deluxe with a brazilian rosewood board and matching pickup covers! If I could, I would in a heartbeat!

That was my customer's bass. He decided to pursue a career in the medical field so he no longer needed a high end bass.

I can vouch it's a killer instrument. If not for my Koa Emperor 4, I would have been seriously tempted.

I just tried to buy the olive Emperor, but Fodera's computer will not let me complete the transaction because it does not recognize my address, even though they have shipped to me before. When you see this Jason, call me and we will finish it. Thank you
