Fodera Club Part XVII

Hey all,

Couple of quick questions re: a custom build....

Fodera is TOO accommodating when it comes to custom (MOSTLY free, I might add!)! I am now struggling with Elite vs. Deluxe (pretty big $$$ upgrade) on my 5er custom build and body shape.

Is there glaring pros (or cons) in spending the extra $$$ on the NT Elite? I really like the abalone block inlays on ebony, but if I go Elite, the blocks sadly get the hook. The blocks are in my price range with the set neck Deluxe, not with the Elite.

Lastly, has anyone had a smaller bodied Emperor or Viceroy 5 built? I am leaning towards the smaller bodied Monarch 5 currently, but the thought of a smaller Viceroy or Emperor is getting some consideration.

I bet Jason is thinking...."you'll get a Monarch Deluxe and like it!":p:D

Man think it yourself, I played 6 for 15 years and then switched to 5 string tuned E-C, and every now and then have GAS attack how I need the 6.
So then u just go to practice and the GAS is off.

I just learned to play Victors "can't hold no groove if you ain't got no pocket" on my Imperial MG tuned E-C with 26 frets, and it's possible.

So just go how you hearth says, I actually went on 5 because I was fed up with people telling me that I don't need high C string, now they don't know that I have and I kept the studio work :-).

Funny story when I did a tour with Gloria Gaynor band leader turns to me and asks if I have a low B, i said sure, all went well he never notice that I was tuned E-C. :rolleyes:

Everything is possible... Just enjoy music.

Haha. It's just like when people ask me for a different sound on my Foderas. I just switch it to passive and people is just like: That's better :)

No, the only one I can think of right off hand that would say take it and like it was banned a while back.
Come to think of it my parents used to say that a lot. Something to do with building character.

All kidding aside, sounds like an interesting build. Bolt on, dovetail or neck though, no one is necessarily better than the other,
just what grabs you as far as tone and feel. For me the bolt on has that certain punch in note attack which I really like. Plus the practical part of being able to easily fix or update the neck without doing major surgery on the neck.

Reminds me of a gig I do maybe once or twice a month with this neo-bluegrass band. We never rehearse and everyone's so talented that we always sound great but literally EVERY time we play together, we'll sound check and everything will be cool. Then as SOON as we finish the first song, the lead female vocalist comes and leans over towards me and says the same thing every time: "Your bass is SO loud right now onstage that my eardrums are hurting. Can you PLEASE turn down?", when I hadn't make a single adjustment since soundcheck. I tell her "ok, sure, no problem", and just don't do a thing. After the show she tells me how great I sounded and thanks me for turning down and understanding! :D
