Just wanted to say thanks for the nice words, and keeping the newest Fodera in this section of the thread, so all can see Vinnie, Joey, Jason, and the rest's latest amazing handiwork!

I must make a comment about the low B on this beast. First off, it's the first time I've had a Thomastik-Infeld flatwound string of that size, and my first Fodera 5 string, so many things are happening at once. But, in humble opinion, that B string, even on the 34" scale, is REALLY nice. I've only had one other 5 string bass, an F Bass, which was a very nice instrument, and had a 34.5 inch scale, but especially given the low tension of the TI flats, I think this B is nicer and 'tighter'. At least from what I recall; it's been awhile since the F Bass found a new home.

I first started with a set of non-tapered nickels then got the same set with tapered and it made a huge difference. To me, every B-string I've had didn't blend well and had a different timbre compared to the other strings. With the taper, the B-string is much more clear (as compared to being muddy in the past) and balanced with the other strings.

This IS the last solid chestnut top. We have one more non-solid top that should be finished next month and one Yin Yang that will have 1/2 of the YY design made from Chestnut...

I wondered that, too, until I went to the Newborns page, looked at the back of the headstock photo, and saw that all 4 tuners have an extender mechanism to drop the tuning. The headstock had to be increased in size to accommodate the mechanisms.

The Fodera version of Michael Manring's hyper bass. The exception is the bridge does not de-tune.

MG placement is in the middle of 60's and 70's and IS the default spacing on any MG Signature instrument...
