the standards go to the seedier venues....

I cohost an open mic night and i always play a fodera, but bassists needing to borrow a bass get to play a p bass unless I know the person well. If they look at me and question it i usually just say "if you drop it are you prepared to write a 8000 check" ...
though in reality the insurance would cover damages at a gig.

OK, Question: Only musical instruments the size of hand luggage are accepted in the cabin on UK aircraft, so the options are;

1. Buy a seat, less tax at £650, which is more than the cost of an economy seat outside of the holiday season.
or......
2. Put the instrument in the hold, secured by hard Flight-case (marked to eye-balls as "FRAGILE") and pay for added insurance.
Which would you take:help:???

Buy a TSA certified flight case, pack her extra gingerly, DO NOT MARK IT Fragile! That is a sure sign to get it abused. Insure it. It will be much cheaper. I usually pack all the clothes I can in the carry on and pack the bass. I have status on certain airlines, so the guitar flies free as first bag.

Tough call, as it is usually a crap shoot, although I have only had one instrument issue in 30 years. Klaus Floride, however, is still looking for his legendaery J Bass in some South American airline baggage claim.

I am a pretty humble guy. I don't really dig that kind of thing. I don't do Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. I am also decidedly old school / low tech and wouldn't even know how to begin uploading a video to something. LOL.

Funny, I have been video taped multiple times (and was on a couple of TV Shows back in the 80's -- LOL), and if someone posted a video of me playing I really wouldn't care, but I just flat out don't go out of my way to make sure that it happens.

I've used Merz Huber insurance for about ten years, never had a claim. I just looked at Anderson a little and might consider them when I renew next when they get back to me with a quote. I think Merz is about the same.

It's a small fortune keeping my collection insured properly but worth the piece of mind to be able to play my basses where I do.

Back to the possible 6 standard, I would love to see walnut body for the tonal clarity, pau ferro board like other fretted standards, DC's, and 17.5mm spacing. I dont know if most people prefer 19mm on sixes, but since I dont want to slap on a 6 I prefer the tighter spacing to keep chording easier and overall size more reasonable. In my dream world it would be 33 but Im pretty sure you're gonna do 34.

If you do it at all, that is. ;)

Thats cool I can relate, I'm very uncomfortable with it, it feels way too narcissistic.

These days I'm figuring out if you want to meet new potentials, a video showing you playing really helps to get them comfortable ( or uncomfortable ). I think it demonstrates a lot and as someone who's primarily interested in original stuff it's a great tool to weed out potential collaborators by showing them, "hey this is how I play" and "Im not a crack addict" (And Much preferable to actually showing up at a crack addict's place). They can choose to call you or not, but either way its favorable to the deer in the headlights look you get when you have to do it one on one and they either don't dig or get your stuff. Major time saver...and just another dimension beyond audio IMHO. The best has always been friends recommendations however...

I use Clarion and have for the last 3 years. Never had to make a claim, but they have a pretty simple online system for updating what gear you want covered. We have about $40,000 in instruments/equipment covered and it runs something like $300 a year, seems reasonable to me but I haven't shopped around for a better deal.

They cover a large variety of stuff - gig bags, brass instruments, pedals, cables, basses, etc.
