Good recovery to you , Jumbo !
i'm in with my new standard. Number 57.
when i ordered the bass i was trying to delay shipping and get a serial number that meant something to me. my first choice of 37 (month and date) was taken so Jason was able to secure number 57 ( year) for me. Well months go by and all hell breaks loose in my life. I lost my job and then on my birthday I have to have my left tonsil removed. 2 days later i get the word that it was cancerous. So the month of April and May i have to undergo 7 weeks of radiation treatment with some chemo thrown in just for fun. To say radiation treatment for throat cancer is painful is the understatement of my lifetime. Simple things like talking and swallowing at times feel like a kick in the groin. And your throat is pretty much the center of your universe so it in constant use. So I make it through and I get the email from Laura that number 57 is ready.
I had not really thought much about the number and just that I had a bass being built. Well nowadays all doctors and hospitals do not use your SS number any more and all security, sign ins, treatments, bloodwork etc are based on your birthdate. So throughout my 3 month ordeal I must have said 3/7/57 what seems like a few thousand times but was more likely only a few hundred times. Needless to say that knowing I had a bass with #57 waiting to be picked actually brought a few tears to my eyes. And i got to pick it up at the shop a few weeks after my treatments ended. Feeling like hell but i got to see the guys and finally meet Jason and Laura in person.
Now several months later i am feeling great, starting gigging again, have been able to sing SOME the last few weeks and i expect a complete recovery over the next few months. Jason actually took some pix of my visit and one of these days I will get a copy. for now here is a family portrait in chrono order with the oldest being number 21 from back in early 1983....... And everytime I pick up number 57 it will remind me of what i have gone through but more importantly my rebirth back since receiving the bass. And i think I am getting close to hopefully getting a new job so i may have to celebrate that with a new deluxe.
