Just wanted to add that it's been a few months now, and while I bought this MG shape Imperial 5 Elite in a plan to flip it for more $ to purchase something bigger, I think I've really found exactly what I was looking for. This bass is just so unbelievable in every way I don't see ever parting with it! The wood combos compliment each other SO well and the chambering just puts it over the edge. Awesome.

It has been 4 months since I received my ES5 serial #74 and it is just getting better all the time. I did not know how good " Great " could be. It is nice to have an instrument that plays better than I do.

Thanks to everyone at Fedora for so much enjoyment.

PS the members in my group keep commenting on how great the sound is.

Congrats. I have had my E5S since Jan and still love everything about it.:hyper: Amazing bass.

Something you might be interested in.... Have you thought about ordering the dual mid pot? I found it added even more versatility to my E5S (#65). Worth looking into if you want a bit more tonal options.

It is a cheap part thru Fodera or Mike Pope ($30-ish?), super easy to install (no soldering) and is 100% reversible if you decide to sell the E5S down the road.

I love it in any case and it doesn't really look any different. Here is how it looks on mine....

*sigh* I seem to be running out of GAS :eek:

Sold the Lull P4 - the YYD covers anything 4-string fretted. The bass slays me every time I play it. The fretted 5 does all the comping I could want, , is totally comfy now, has a great punchy tone, and can be backup for the YYD. The fretless 5 makes me giggle when I play it. The fretless 4 is on order and may push the 5 out but with my luck I'll love them both.

Any of the basses into Monique into the Baers is pretty much exactly the tone I want. Now just play play play. Only new horizon would be a 6. Not sure I can go there :D

+1 I had experienced the Pope dual-mid control option when we did the review of the FlexCore preamp and I had Phil install one in an old Tobias Basic 4. On that bass, the dual mids are in use to one degree or another most of the time, and it's a real game-changer.

Based upon that experience, I the dual-mid control added to my E5S, and it is just as effective on my Fodera as it was on my old Tobias. That being said, I actually spend most of the time playing my E5S in passive mode, or in active mode but set "flat," so it's not at all necessary, though it does add nice additional flexibility.

Just to also chime in, I've also tried the dual mid control in in Fodera basses as well as spent some time with the (essentially the same) Pope Flexcore preamp in another premium bass with the dual mid control and it was wonderful. My Monarch will definitely have it.

As a side note, the MusicMan Bongo basses also have dual mid controls and it's one of my favorite features of those basses.

I've got the Pope preamp in my Lakland 55-02 and went with the dual mid configuration. Recommended by
another Talk Bass member Munjibunga. I have to say that it has the utmost in flexibility tone wise and combined
the the change in pickups from stock to Nordstrand, it's now a different animal. It will never sound like my E5S
But it literally saved it from being sold. I'm very tempted to go the dual mid route on the E5S and even my EII
build. Not a necessity on the Foderas as they sound incredible as they are, just another knob for a gadget freak
to mess with.
