i like it due to the fact that it is completely unusual from my knowledge: 85 started with the split-p style pickup and the second aj style body, but this has something that looks like the first aj body with two pickups. kinda rad.

body is close , maybe a little refined, but not sure.
Yes mine is zebra over maple. Actyually thinking I ordered 84 as it was one of the first batch of 3 6 string basses Vinny built. My 5 string was 86 i think. Heavy but had a wonderful deep tone from it. Split pups were actually emg soapbars in guitar size which was gibson/aria spacing. There were no pickups available back then. IIRC Tom Kennedy's first 5 string (zebra also) had steel pedal pups in it. My 6 had 2nd gen hazlab preamp.

That bass is actually at the shop. didn't think to look for it today when i was there. too busy hanging with some buds.....

What's the theory behind the reverse split P? Never mind, that's what I figured, availability.

I received ES5 #94 today so I'm back in the Fodera club after a 13 year absence.
Right out of the box the setup was perfect with a low action and zero fret buzz. It really sounds amazing and I am in major lust.
I can't stop playing it, looking at it and just touching it. :o
The top is a little different than most of the ES5's I have seen pics of. This one doesn't have the tight flame but has a nice flame with a lot of swirls and is a little darker I liked this one because it was a little different and it's 9.5 lbs.
I promised myself I wouldn't gush because I know how I turnover basses. But I am so excited about my
new ES5 I just can't help myself.

I would like to give a shout out to Steve Pisani and The GTR Store for their great customer service!!

The cool thing is that now she is yours and is ready whenever you are! I LOVE mine and HIGHLY recommend adding the 4 band pre...I love it in mine!

I have had my E5S for almost a year and still can't walk by it without playing it or at least admiring it's beauty. Amazing basses.

+1 on the stacked mids "mod". Cheap, super easy to install, sounds great and is completely reversible.

Yup. There may be some truth to this whole gateway philosophy. I've been playing E5S number 005 since June of 2012. The bass is absolutely spectacular. That feeling of not being able to walk by it without playing, or at least touching it has been my experience for the past 16 or so months. However, this morning, my wife and I drove into Brooklyn and left with a Monarch 5 deluxe, alder body, stunning curly walnut top and Birdseye maple fretboard. Yup, the gateway has stricken.
