Sanwin17 mentioned the nut would have to be changed. Is that an absolute? If yes, what is the approximate cost to change the nut if the bass is sent to you?

The bass in question will be at the shop on Monday so maybe they can give you a better assessment then. I think the shop closes on Tuesday, for the NAMM break,
and re-opens the following Monday.

What bass is Andy Cichon pictured with in the new Ampeg ads?

Looks like an E5S/E5SS lovechild (look at the control layout, string retainer and seemingly plain maple headstock) but with a fat single looking bridge PU and a P5 neck pickup.

Definately different!

Green : A/B/C Box / Switch w. different Gain potis - great when using electric and double bass

Orange : Sunday Driver - Buffer - great for the Piezo of my double bass

White : Effect-Loop

That's it ;)

Hi guys - I am so curious about Fodera's, but I could NEVER afford one.

I really want to know why you guys like them so much. Is it the neck feel ? Tone ? Whole package ?

I play a Peavey Cirrus and I've owned just about every other bass, including every model of Alembic (except Series) and the Cirrus blows them all away.

At $4,000 - $9,000 for a Fodera , thousands more than most basses, do you really notice the difference or is it more of a status thing ? I am asking with sincerity. Thanks - Mike

Status symbol. I like when people make assumptions like I must live off my parents money, or making myself an easier mugging target. JK. The same reason any fans of any particular instrument company like those instruments. They do what we want them to do. Yeah, they're expensive, but if an instrument can bring out the absolute best in your playing, wouldn't you want one?

This is it for me. The neat-o exotic tops are awesome, they are gorgeous no doubt, the attention to detail is un-matched, Jason is extremely helpful and I'd have to imagine if I was fortunate enough to live around NYC to head down to the shop everyone else would be nice too, sure.

But when it comes down to it, I love them (and I'll admit, I've only ever played two) because their instruments make me a better player. Fodera basses seem to be just that, instruments, and never an obstacle. For me, Foderas, so much more so than any other bass, just "get out of the way" and allow me to let my ideas out better than any instrument. That is huge for me.

Oh yea, and they sound AWESOME.

Wow, those are some honest answers and I appreciate that. Yes, to own a bass that brings out the best of me would be priceless. I know there are a lot of people who order Alembics for the purpose of hanging on the wall as art. Seems like a crime to me.
I am glad to hear the passion for Fodera and it makes me want to try one.

Personally, I would rather own 2 $8000 basses at this point in my life than own 8 $2000 basses or 16 $1000 basses. Why? I think a Fodera basses are the best available and after owning almost everything else, I see no point buying and selling dozens of basses to try for a tone that is better.

Also, I have dealt/met with Jason as well as Joey, Phil, Laura and even Vinny. They are all great. Responsive, accommodating, knowledgeable and just great people.

Quality, craftsmanship, playability, tone, look and customer service.... is my real answer.

Fodera basses do make me play better and play more also. I can't walk by mine without oicking it up!

This may be a dim question, but do use the bass version of the Waterfall? I see places selling the regular version, but only see one place that sells the bass version that's always out of stock.

I do use the bass waterfalls. I got it from one of their distributors - you may have to order it. Not sure if there is a difference but since they make two versions there must be some difference :D

As for why spend $10k on a Fodera - it is playable art that pushes me to be a better musician. The superb playability entices me to go new places and try new things. The brutal honesty of the instrument shines a light on my weaknesses and points out what I need to work on. It also rewards my good moments like no other instrument I've owned and gigged (which is a long list). To top it off, the company is a family, and those that play their instruments end up as extended family.

Beyond that, no reason in particular...

The effects loop doesn't do feedback, does it?:)

This pretty much summarizes what I take from the posts discussing the merits of Foderas in this thread, and in this owner's forum over the years.

Has anyone taken a deep breath and bought a Fodera without ever having played one?
If so, what has been the experience?

It's posts like this and others, plus magazine reviews and Youtube clips, plus the quick responses from Jason that makes me seriously consider acquiring one of the Standards sight unseen, and without ever having had an opportunity to try out a Fodera for myself. I would have to do it this way as I'm thousands of miles from the nearest known Fodera owner and there are no dealers in my country.

I'm not a wealthy person by any means, but I could sell a number of quality instruments I've acquired over the years to get one. I realize that it's only Fodera owners who would not think I'm being totally crazy to be even considering this. The objective would be for the chosen Fodera to become my only fretted bass - which I would gig most of the time.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Am I being totally off the wall??

i was a fodera owner for nearly a decade. had three of them. they didnt make me a better player. i can understand spending a ******** of money lighting a fire under your ass to practice a ton, but i dont really see an instrument making anyone a better player. you either have music in you or you dont imo. i still absolutely love what they do and if i had money to burn id pick one up again.
