EBS BassIQ + Octabass is about as crazy as i get on effects (and its great, if silly). Other than that its lots of permutations of overdrive and distortion that don't sound as good as my mesa titan. And always a maxon cp9-pro+, which i love and is always on. My old ('92ish) boss CE-5 is a great chorus.

Clean with compression is almost always best.

You could consider a coil tap switch between the inner and outer coils on the Duncan dual coils. Maybe not quite as dramatic a tonal contrast as moveable pickups but certainly will give you some variation. Once you find the sweet spot you probably won't move them much anyway, IMHO.

as I know how busy Jason must be but if there's an archive...

I've had my Imp 5 for at least 6 yrs now and know little about it like birth year, top wood and pre-amp.

It is an Imperial Elite (I was told by seller)
5 string
36" scale
fretless
3 piece neck
beautiful ebony board
mahogany body
gold HW including engraved truss rod cover
single coils

It looks like the serial number is: I51693N (but the 6 could be 8) it's hard to read

I did register it soon after getting it but I have no more info.

you had me at effects . . .

yeah, i like 'em. been abusing them with bass for about 30 years. a few different setups. someone did a net interview of me on this stuff.

there are pics, descriptions of different setups and vid links.

it also shows i'm a little maniacal.

At most gigs I'm running my nano board which is TC delay, FEA dual band comp, and Sonic tuner. For my band I run the bigger board which is Strymon delay, 3Leaf Wonderlove, Jam Waterfalls chorus, EH POG, Aguilar Agro and Octamizer (plus Sonic tuner) and sometimes a Boomerang 3.

That said most of the time everything is off.

How would you describe it when compared to other choruses

I was discussing with sanwin17 about his 5 string imperial II he has for sale. It has the extended B tuning peg set up. The bass is currently strung B-G

Are there any issues changing the string tuning to E-C with regards to the extended peg?

Sanwin17 mentioned the nut would have to be changed. Is that an absolute? If yes, what is the approximate cost to change the nut if the bass is sent to you?

I swap between B-G and E-C on my fretless with no issues. Don't have an extended "B" but don't think that would impact things.

The Waterfall is my favorite chorus so far. Second favorite is analogman. I do t really care for digital choruses like the TC or modeled ones. The Jam is flexible and doesn't suck tone from the chain.

Changing the nut is the technically the proper thing to do, but I've been stringing my basses tenor with stock cut nuts for over 15 years. No issues, no rattling or loss of sustain. Just a thought if you plan to try e to c tuning and want the ability to revert to b to g.

oth, i think the iron ether polytope gives a really interesting take on the whole chorus/vibrato thing. while it's not literally a chorus/vibrato (it's literally a multi-voice detuner), it can do those flavors and some really wacky stuff on top of that. it is digital, but that doesn't bother me.

I agree and I've thought about getting another one if these. Not the "sweet analog" thing but capable of a wide variety if tones, from subtle to wacky.
