Looks like Christian's (hou) bass. Nice bass indeed.

It is, in fact, a Spruce back. Just as AJ's bass had a Holly Top and Back.

Please remember that these are not Classical guitars. They are a completely different internal design with a different type of bracing made from completely different materials as classical guitars. They also remain electrified instruments and so our goals are not the same as for a classical acoustic guitar. There is no need for sound amplification in our design. Tonal shaping, yes, but amplification? No. So, we have a lot more flexibility than we would if we were building in the classical acoustic realm. We are not using the back as a reflective surface the way we would if building a classical guitar.

As for longevity of the material, the future owner of this instrument is well aware that Spruce must be treated carefully and furthermore, once a wood has been properly finished, unless you dent it and/or as long as you do not wear through the finish there should be very little difference in overall instrument longevity and/or the need for refinishing. Buckeye Burl is far softer than Spruce and the instruments that we build with Buckeye tops require no different level of care than those with hard Maple tops.

Finally, please remember that Vinny studied classical guitar construction under Thomas Humprhey, has built classical acoustic instruments and has deliberately gone in a different direction for the Presentation II.

Hopefully this all makes sense.

What are the "classic 2+3" or "classic 3+3" headstocks? I know the difference between the modern/classic 4 string (modern vs. the other Wooten Monarch headstock sizes)- is it the same for 5/6 strings? I've never seen 5/6 strings with the wider headstocks...only ones that actually look narrower.

Any help Jason? Just curious!

The auto quote thing will definitely save them a ton of headache/email traffic!

Had an interesting rehearsal tonight.... I left the big effect board at home and brought a Line6 M9 multieffect instead. I just picked it up and in true Brent fashion, I didn't really read the full manual or nail down my settings for a full volume rehersal. I gave up after 2 songs and just played my E5S->Monique->Berg AE210... No effects at all.

Of course, after a 3 hour jam, every band member couldn't believe how amazing my tone was.:spit: I guess I am going back to my clean sound with a a Tech 21 chorus for a few songs and my trusty MXR Bass Auto-Q only when I need to get funky.

It was actually an eye opener for me. The combination of Fodera/Monique/Bergantino truly is my sound and it sounds just amazing unaltered.

Oh, I pick up my Monarch 5 Deluxe in exactly 6 weeks!:bassist: After a long wait, I am getting excited now.....

Congrats, and you are correct that the pure tone is cool. But, and I may be wrong, I begin to think when you are running through a PA your tone is being tweaked by the sound guy, and all the things that you can't control. That's why I'm more in love with the playability than which woods will be perfect. YMMV

Its amazing how much tone-suck a bunch of effects can have, even true bypass adds a bunch of cable ... When i was using more effects i used a barge looper to keep them out of my clean signal path.
