I talked to Joey about a similar idea and we ended up with two 3 way switches so either DC can be split to inner, outer or parallel!
I can imagine if Tal is really looking for that single coil J sound in a exactly 60's or 70's position that using the pup she wants where she wants it could be a good solution for the bridge.
I had a custom jazz six made with another builder and here was my bright idea: I have splittable dual coils and installed them so the outer coils are in the Seventies jazz position when split. Worked out amazing well... it's a killer Seventies six string single coil jazz that really drops the hammer with all coils on. I have a single 3 way coil tap switch that chooses all coils-dual bridge single neck-all singles. Simple and very effective.
