Fodera Club Part XXVII

I'm thinking seriously about the Monarch-P. I emailed Fodera to ask "why the different pickups" on their two p-bass models and it sounds like the Duncans target the 50's and the Aguilars the 60's sound. Hard to hear the difference in the small number of demos I've found on youtube because they're all different players, different songs, etc.

As far as I can see online no retailer has the natural finish P, only a couple have the Classic, none are for sale used, so I'll probably have to go direct with Fodera and wait out the 6-8 months.

On the other hand if I watched the used market every day for 6 months I assume one would eventually pop up?

Hello,

I locked in my order yesterday. For those interested, here are the specs:

*MG Imperial 5-string
*34" scale
*26 frets
*Alder body/ mahogany tone block
*Maple neck
*Ebony fingerboard (blank but with aluminium side dots)
*Mahogany top (I've asked for an additional picture to be sent over- I'll post it if it comes)
*Passive
*Nordstrand NP5 neck pickup/ Bigrig bridge pickup
*Classic wooden butterfly

Since I last posted (around a month ago) I changed a few things. The biggest question mark for me was to do with the pickups, but after listening to what you guys all had to say, plus having spoken to the ever-helpful Stew from Nordstrand, I'm really excited by what I've chosen. Now the agonising 6-month wait (which, to be fair, is a much nicer prospect than the 14 month wait I had for my first Fodera!).

Not sure if this PJ configuration is factory or aftermarket, but it might be what you're looking for.

Interesting - thanks for showing me this. I messaged the seller but I don't know if I'll make an offer. I sort of love the minimalist visual aesthetic of the standard config Monarch-P, which is IMO diminished by the extra pickup and pot. But with this being the only option on market at the moment, it's possible...

(edit: seller declined to share a video demo, so I think I'll have to pass. I'd be too nervous to buy a $3k+ instrument not only without being able to try it, but also without being able to hear one with the same configuration).

I see that seller also has a Compito tribute for sale - I'm not in the market for one of those, but I won't complain if somebody else on here decides to buy it and post some videos. :D

You chose well. Once under finish, I bet it'll be subtly chatoyant. And I'd opt for matching wooden pickup covers to complete the effect, though Ebony to match your fingerboard could also be a lovely choice--especially if you are going with black hardware.

Oh wow, I've never come across 'chatoyant' before, but that's definitely the the sort of look I was hoping for. And yes, black hardware to match the ebony fingerboard, but unfortunately no pickup covers. I think/ hope that the pickups as they are will look good with the black hardware/ ebony fingerboard.
