If I'm understanding your post, I'm again chuckling at the Fodera boys. So, someone ordered this bass and waited god knows how long, and the bass came with the wrong spec. That must have been an ugly moment when they opened the case. Your gain though, that's amazing!

This right here is the haz lab preamp. If you look at the pcboard next to the battery there is an oval with the initials HAZ in it. also the board with the pickup connections has the same printed oval HAZ

Dang, you guys make me sobbing.... I miss my Monarch 5. 1987 (If I remember correctly),
haz lab pre 3 band, lane poor, alder, curly maple top, ebony, gold hw.
A funny memory:
the first time I took this bass at a gig and plucked the first few notes, one of the two chic singers turns around look at me and:
"wow, that bass sounds awesome"..... a chic singer, can you immagine :eek:

Joke aside, this was one of the best basses I have owned:

That is a sweet looking bass as well. All these Fodera's just look absolutely beautiful.

The person who ordered it originally was a collector and not a player. He made a number of changes throughout the process and no one could remember if the change from dots to blocks was ever finalized and passed on to the guys at Fodera. As a collector he didn't mind waiting the extra time. Which I don't get.

As I'm not a collector, the first weekend I had it I played it at a coffee shop gig. Then a house party where I sat on the ground and let the kids play it too under my very watchful eye.

Collectors!!! I never did get that either. I will give the Fodera shop a total pass on that one, and retract my previous 'chuckle' post.:)

I bought an Alleva-Coppolo LG/Nitro finish that was owned by a collector for a year or so, and I swear it was never played (bonus for me, just like bonus for you!). I guess 'pretty things' are 'pretty things', whether they are cars, basses, whatever. I still don't get the collector thing though, and I'm with you... whatever basses I own, they get played... 90 degree outside gigs, whatever!

That again is just a beautiful instrument!

it doesn't matter if it's fodera, AC, elrick, benevante, sadowsky or any other hand made instrument! it's almost like a crime to get an instrument hand made by a master of their trade, and keep it hanging on your wall or hidden away in a hard case... especially when waiting times are huge for many of the top luthiers! :scowl:
