I guess when I heard the term "collector" I thought of someone who doesn't play at all and just likes to have fancy shmancy instruments hangin on their wall. I don't care how they spend their money. I wasn't referring to the amateur with extra cash who buys nice gear like I do.![]()
That's my definition also, and has nothing to do with a guy who plays (at a high or low level) and has a bunch of instruments. Most of us on Talkbass would be considered 'collectors' but that loose definition. My comment of 'not really getting it' was only directed toward a few people I'm aware of that literally don't play, and buy dozens of high end basses to literally 'hang them on the wall'.
That's why, when a collector sells an instrument, it usually is priced higher than the typical used price of a given model, since, literally, it's never been played.
Also, while I don't 'get it', it surely doesn't bother me
