Fodera Imperial Elite 5-String Available!

To me, it sounds like it's time for a bigger shop/more employees. Then again, I'm not the most business-savvy person in the world.

Their model must be working on some level, as they have a slew of people falling over themselves to spend BIG bucks on something with a multi-year wait. They must be doing something right.

Are you familiar with the term "hype"?

Hey Brad, I agree with the above totally. At this stage (i.e., 2008), most know that Fodera's will take three or four years from placing an order, and at this point, it's 'buyer beware'. I totally agree.

However, back three or four years ago, people were told quite a different story, and all I'm suggesting is that they get some of these basses that were promised YEARS ago off the books prior to spending months (if the above is accurate) building spec instruments for new buyers

I understand that. I'm not sure if many of you even understand what I'm talking about. I'll try one last time:D

Let's say you have an exotic blank that ONE person orders a top from. Despite the fact that you see it's very nice wood, you don't have a specific order for another one. Should you cut one top and put the rest aside for who knows how long or should you instead cut as many as you can get from it WHILE YOU'RE CUTTING THE CUSTOMER'S TOP? What do the "only work on orders" folks think? If you "allow" them to do the extra tops, should they then shelve them?

If they're gluing that one top to a body blank, does it not make sense, WHILE THEY'RE IN THAT MODE OF PRODUCTION to do the same with those extra tops? If so, should they then shelve them?

And on to the next step and the next.

See the point yet? If they can expend a little more effort and make another instrument ALONG WITH ORDERS, they shouldn't because... ?

I think people are more focused on the ideal rather than the real world aspects of building.

Vinnie is not just the neck guy. He has been there through every bit of the process on my bass. Joey is also a great builder and deals with parts of the build process . Martha does the phone thing. Vadim is also a gifted craftsman that is there to help with the build process. Bendy does the website. That's it. But Vinnie is definitely the primary builder and I know because I have spoke with him several times throughout the build process and he was not asking me about necks. KJung I do feel your pain . Seeing a spec instrument showing up during the middle of long wait, however chances are that it was an instrument cancelled in the middle of the build process before the custom options were added. But we can always give them a call and find out. They are great people and would be happy to tell us so that we stop making assumptions on the internet.

You are introducing conjecture. Which is what you had an issue with. :smug: that's right

I'm offering a counterpoint to the complaints, based on EXPERIENCE. Take it or leave it. I'm not going to jump on the Fodera-bashing bandwagon like most people.

Your point is noted, and I agree with KJung on his responses to your questions. I doin't think anyone is really agreeing with you actually.

He didn't respond to my questions so if it makes sense to agree with that, cool. As far as anyone not agreeing with me, given the rationale here I'm cool with that too. Most definitely.

Beats watching non-potential customers complain.
:D

I'm complaining. You have no idea what stage of order or contemplation of order I'm at..if any.

BTW, I think your explanation of why Fodera should do what its doing belies a valid issue of optics in the context of this super high end builder. If you dont value that, thats cool, if I or others see value in that then thats as legitimate.

:D

 Read above posts:smug:

Let me restate so that my point is obvious. If there was only ONE customer who's bass has been delayed WAY past the promised date, and that customer is unhappy about it, then there is IMO no (zero, none, nada) justification to spend one second of time on ANYTHING else but getting that customer's bass done.

You edited this after my response.

The obvious problem from a build point of view is that you can't spend every second on one bass. And if you seriously think that only ONE customer's bass has been delayed...?

Cool. Sorry, I can't look at this in a vacuum and join the "this is unacceptable, period" bandwagon.

Hey guys, I just stumbled on this thread about Fodera's business model.

On a different topic, did you guys hear that there's an instrument available right now? They just finished it. Just passing the word along!

;)

Again, did I say you? Did I say everyone who is complaining?

Nope.

Wow.

"Bashing" is a broad term used for whatever meaning the writer needs/wants to infuse it with.

I'll be clear, I'm not bashing the fine instruments, or even the price points..I'm questioning the move to produce spec instruments in this context.
