Fodera Monarch Trio

OK....I live in La Jolla and have been in the store one time. Not my cup of tea, but so be it.

I HAVE to ask, though.....what the heck is a "Independent Contractor" to a bass store????? You sell 'em wood or something?? :D

Guess I'm one of the "great unwashed" but I prefer to head up the road to Corona and Santa Ana for my bass porn....:p

I do electronics work for them, specifically installing Pope Flex Core preamps. It ain't no big deal but I occasionally benefit from that relationship, and the forum rules require that you disclose beneficial relationships with builders or sellers. I do not, however, receive any benefit whatsoever from their sales of instruments.

Ultimately, I am a satisfied customer of theirs and want to see their store stay open so I have a good place to dispose of any disposable income, since I have no cocaine habit. I like hanging out there, too.

As to where you like to go for your bass pr0n, that's what's cool about America - you can get more than one flavor.

Cool! Yeah, I was just curious...I was in the store a couple of years ago and like I said, they are a tad too "high brow" for my bass tastes...but that's me. Good folks, though!

They've started carrying G&L and import MTD and Dingwall models that are more affordable. You might want to glide by again. You can drool on the Foderas while you're there - they should have my drool cleaned off by now.

Dude, with these three, you can practically flip a coin...

Definitely.

Heads = buy the bolt on

Tails = buy all three

Nope.

Heads = buy the bolt on

Tails = byu the dovetail

edge = buy all three

Here you go...let the games begin!!

An important note...these were originally recorded at 96k to retain as much of the sonic information as possible from the instruments. They were then down-sampled to 44.1k (CD "quality") to make the files more reasonably sized so that they could be easily downloaded and burned to a CD. They are meant to be listened to on the best audio equipment you have available to you...

A HUGE thanks to Matt Garrison for recording these for us. As you already know, he's as amazing a person as he is a player!!

Got a crazy day today; gonna listen tonight. I'm looking forward to it.

This is cool!

To me it's:

Bolt on - throatier, more raw, most trad slap sound.
Dovetail - sweeter, more even, killer -- the one I'd pick. Plenty punchy, refined, unique.
Neck though - deep bordering on dark, less dynamic, more polite.

I definitely hear a lot of that dual coil phasing on all of these, I generally prefer singles.

My 0.02's..... Is it possible to get the three basses on a different amp set up? My reasoning is that when I play the same bass through a different set up but at the same settings they all sound different. Example... When I played my Sadowsky WL5 through my Genz Benz setup I rarely use the mid boost but when I play it through my Orange AD 200 tube amp it can't sound sweeter with the mid boost on.

Trying my Monarch deluxe through the same experiment yields differences as well although not as pronounced but I will say playing through the set up at the Fodera shop I believe they use a Walter Woods with a Epifani 210 my monarch sizzled a lot more then my set up at home.

So going back to my original question...Is it possible to say get the 3 basses played through a different set up but by the same player. Just to take the the amp out of the equation?

Just to make myself a little clearer.... Will certain amp and cab set ups make or favor a certain type of bass..ie would say an ampeg cl make a bolt on sound better then a neck through and would say an AER amp 2 make a neck through sound better then a Dove Tail?
