Fodera Monarch Trio

Quilted Maple that nice is not often seen anymore. Someone must have uncovered one of Vinny's secret parcels of "the best of the best".

If they all had Koa tops like Garey's old 6 , I might have a serious case of GAS to deal with.

I'm thinking about selling my Lexus and getting a Vespa. I kind of burned out on quilt a while back, but these are extreme. Fodera outdid themselves on these.

As for the tone, all I'll say right now is each one sounds bitchen and, no matter what style of neck joint you prefer, you'd be happy with any one of these. You'd be happier with all three. I suspect the sound is more a product of the wood and electronics than the neck joint, in any case.

Wow. I forgot these were 5 strings, and had dual coils. They are stunning to look at, and I'm sure they are fantastic to play. I just picked up an NYC Deluxe, which I am playing the heck out of. This spec is sooo close to what I would consider to "Fodera-te" my current Lakland 35"/19mm/Nordy dual coil/Pope FlexCore bass. If I hadn't just refinanced my home mortgage...:)

As for the "venial sin" of splitting them up (Munji, I think you were not totally serious), my thought is - if they do indeed have individual voices, then they should end up in the hands of the right player for that voice. AND...they should not end up in a glass display case!

To Vinnie, Joey, Jason and all the folks at Fodera - this is beautiful work. Nicely done.

I am totally serious. Look below the picture Link Removed. This is a matched set. If I won the lotto, I'd buy 'em, but ...

So somebody with wads of cash needs to step forward and preserve the continuity of nature by buying all three.

I just sat down and spent some quality time with the CD on my very transparent home audio system. We had Matt record all three basses each doing the following:

1. Each open string;
2. Chord progression using all strings in the middle of the FB;
3. Scale
4. Fingerstyle lick
5. Slap lick

I will wait to join the discussion about my impressions until AFTER we have posted the sound clips and had them out there in the world for a week for all to hear...

To be fair, I wrote my impressions down about which bass was which and sealed them in an envelope for my co-workers to open tomorrow.

Stay tuned. They will be posted by the middle to end of this week. You are in for quite a fun ride!

Also, please, please, please make sure that you listen to them on a real sound system with good bass response and not just your computer speakers or iPod. That seems very obvious to me, but I thought that I'd mention it!!

Regards,

J

They were built by Fodera for precisely this purpose (comparison of differences between construction techniques). Matt Garrison was recorded playing them and Fodera will be posting samples for the world to hear. In order to understand the playing differences, well you'd just have to pay a quick visit to Bass San Diego before they are sold.

I dunno. If I win the lotto, I'd buy the bolt-on in a heartbeat (even with the gold hardware), but I'm already enough of a consumer ho without buying three nigh-on identical basses...

........'Not Sold Separately!'

Is this serious?
Why would I buy three identical basses?
They look amazing but I would never do that.

If you were rich and wanted some eye candy for your entryway, you would buy them. And they're not identical. You could always put them in a custom display case with rotating stands so the differences would become evident. I have a hunch you could buy just one but ... plantar warts - they're very uncomfortable.

That display case would need a 24k backdrop, a mahogany case and lighting effects. If you buy the basses, I'll do a rough sketch...
