Fodera Quality that doesn't $$$ Fodera Price!

What are some other bass makers.. that offer fodera like quality with prices not being so expensive..


Please this is not a Fodera debate...comparison etc..

I'm just looking for other good quality bass builders that are cheaper..

Hopefully you understand what i mean...

It depends on what aspect of Fodera you'll looking to replicate. Sound, look, type of construction, etc.

For instance if you're looking for bolt-ons, there are many gorgeous instruments out there (Skjold comes to mind). For dovetail or neck-through, less so. Some electronic packages are in the rough ballpark but to me the Pope preamp in the Fodera is part of the sound and you won't replicate that with other setups. That isn't to say that other pup/pre combinations aren't good, just that they won't sound the same.

Also worth noting that there's a huge difference between a Victor Wooten EMG P/J loaded Fodera, the NYC series bolt-on jazz Foderas and say, a Matt Garrison Seymour Duncan Dual Coil Fodera.

And it's unclear if the OP just wants an expertly crafted bass (in which case there are many to choose from) or if he really wants to cop that Fodera sound.

I can say that if it's the latter, nothing is exactly like a Fodera, but Chris Stambaugh definitely can build something very much in the same ballpark using a Pope pre and whatever pickups you wish. Chris has done quite a few basses in the Fodera vein and his build quality is really good, especially for the money.

There are so many factors. In my opinion the $1000 to $4000 dollar range I respect the work of Mike Lull, Stambaugh, FBass, Sandberg. This is if you are looking for just nice quality instruments, if you are looking to emulate the Fodera sound Im not really sure.

Big +1. Chris is now building my 3rd. For the quality of his work, his prices are very reasonable. Looking forward to another Stammy!
