Fodera strings?

After having done some reading on Fodera strings, I've been curious about them now that I'm considering going back to nickel rounds on one of my basses.

One thing I've noticed, though is it looks like they recently changed the gauge selections for their factory sets. What's the deal with that?

The gauges that we have been making have remained the same for at least the past eight years.

It was a very difficult decision to make to remove the single quantities of all that manufacturers products to not be available in single quantities. All sets are still available through the company on that link in 5 and 10 packs. This is to ensure the freshest product. Any questions regarding product on the website link please message through the site on that link.

As it turns out, I was the one who was confused and mistaken when I raised the question about the gauge selections for the Fodera strings. I was actually thinking of the Ken Smith Compressors. Sorry about that.

The string availability of that manufacturer has not changed.

The string gauge selection for F 0 D E R A strings has not changed either, to ensure the freshest product only higher volume string sets will be available in single quantities. The 5 and 10 packs are available with bulk pricing savings applied.

Hi Michael! IMO Fodera Nickel Roundwounds are one of the very best rounds that I've tried. They have a really balanced sound. They're bright sounding, but they aren't harsh. I had a set of them on my main bass for quite a while and they keep their tone. As a matter of fact, when I restrung my main bass with Pressurewounds I coiled up the Foderas and kept them. For me, that says a lot.

They're the only round core bass string I've tried, and for me, they felt a bit different to my fretting hand, a bit less tension, but I know I could've adapted to their feel, had I stuck with them.

And they're very reasonably priced, especially how high quality they are.

Now that I'm back in the roundwound game for the first time in two years, there are three on my must-try list - GHS Boomers (both hex core and round core) and Fodera Nickels.

Knowing you always speak very highly of both the Pressurewounds and the Boomers, I'm a bit surprised you haven't tried the Round Core Boomers. ;)

I once tried the DR Sunbeams 45-105 on my J. As much as my left hand loved their suppleness for fretting, they were a bit too flexible for my right hand. From what I've been reading, both the Fodera Nickels and the Round Core Boomers are slightly stiffer than the Sunbeams, which is a good thing in my book.

Round Core Boomers are on my "Need to try a set" list, - which keeps getting longer, thanks to this forum! :D

Like you, I prefer a higher tension "feel" for my plucking hand, and from what I'm reading around this forum, the round core Boomers provide it.

I use Boomers on my Spector, the next time I restring it, it'll be with a set of the round cores. :bassist:
