Fodera strings?

Indeed the same occured to me but with a thicker gauge, the B is the best I've tried in rounds, period! Would recommend Foderas strings to anyone, great both steel and nickes, my to go.

I have been using Fodera strings on all of my basses for over a year and have no need to use anything else beyond the odd set of flats on my P.

I find the Fodera strings (steels and Nickels) retain brightness for much longer than EBMM, GHS, Fender and D'Addario and are only a few $$$ more per set.

They also sound great and as I mentioned previously in this thread, the steels are amazingly smooth.

I've had two sets of nickles on my 5, one with a tapered B and one with a plain B.
I found that both sets lasted a good long time and sounded very nice, but they sounded very different. The set that I got with the plain B had a midrange growl that wasn't present in the set with the tapered B. It was unexpected, but not a bad sound.
To be clear this growl was present on all strings, not just the B.

Great to hear that, I´m off with tapered strings. I want my B to sound like the other 4.

Sounds like you need nickel instead of steel, so try the Fodera Nickels or DR Sunbeams. Either will be less bright. I give the nod to Fodera simply because they offer tapered B strings and .135 B strings.

I'm a long time user and advocate of DR Sunbeams. I love the round core feel, their smooth texture and solid warm tone. I decided to try a set of Fodera nickels a try as part of some experimentation with one of my basses. These comments below are coming from a DR Sunbeams fanatic...

Fodera nickels are CRAZY good! In comparison to Sunbeams of the same gauge the tension is ever so slightly higher and the feel is almost as smooth but not quite. The tone is VERY even string to string and all have similar character. Less compensating for differences in tonality. Overall they are brighter and the mids are more present. They sound less scooped, especially after break-in. Loads of growl not present in Sunbeams. No thumpy E, just pure magical tone. Harmonics leap off of these strings with little effort. These are simply the most musical strings I've ever played on.

Buy some and enjoy!

I agree. Tried the heavy nickels on my MTD 635 and I'm sold.

I'm waiting on a set of the extra light nickel Fodera strings to get here in the mail in like 2 hours.I'm a long time Sunbeam user but I heard Fodera also uses round core and pure nickel wraps instead of nickel plated steel.They are going on my Carvin LB70WP.I'm pretty excited

I want to clarify what is different about our nickel strings (to my knowledge). On our nickel strings, all of the outer wraps are nickel plated steel. Most manufacturers only use the (more expensive) nickel plated wire on the outer most wrap. Since the G and C strings both only have one outer wrap, it makes no difference on those, but for all of the other multi-wrap strings, ALL of our wrap wire is nickel coated steel. No one that I am aware of (including us) uses all nickel for the wrap wire.

I think he meant ALL wrap wire (excluding the core) is NPS,
but the core may well be also. With all the wraps and core NPS or S/S, that's why they last so long.
