They arent "compressed" like Pressure Wounds / Compressors / Silencers / Solobass 55's... Its more like more windings are compressed into a smaller area. Something along those lines

Fodera strings?

Might as well jump in here myself. Just ordered a set of Foderas from BestBassGear (I was buying some other items and decided to toss them in because of the free shipping). The 45-100 set, wanted to try the former Wooten set but it was backordered. How long have people found them to last? Putting them on my SX Jazz bass which will have Fender 70's pickups in it. Hopin' for a nice funky sound 
DR Sunbeams have a round core as well.Well, I just tried out the Fodera nickels, but the problem for me right now is figuring out if I like round core or not. They are easier to play, but when you are attacking the string real hard and/or fast they don't respond the same way hex core strings do so I'm not really sure if these are right for me or not. As far as the sound goes they are really bright for nickels and have a nice, smooth but punchy tone to them. I think the round core has something to do with having a smoother tone than hex cores.
UPDATE: I just tried a brand new set of DR Sunbeams and the E was dead right out of the pack. I contacted DR strings and they were very nice and said they would send me out a brand new set at no charge. That's pretty good customer service!
Been using Fodera Nickel Ultra Lights (same as Vic Wooten Sigs.) for several years on my Mike Lulls and Fenders. Won't use anything else. Plus, they're made in NYC and the price is right.

I am impressed at how well these strings wear, how great they sound and feel and they are cheap relative to other brands. The only strings I am using moving forward.
I am using 40-120 (light) on my 5er MTD, Modulus and Spector. I strung my MTD 535 with 40-120 Nickels this weekend (rehearsing tonight to try) and all other basses have Stainless.
I've got a set of Nickels on the way from Bassstringsonline and I'm looking forward to them. I may end up trying out the steels if I keep reading that they have a smooth feel as I detest the feel of a typical steel string.
Hmmm...I've got a set of Fodera Steels for sale in the classifieds that I figured I'd never use as I don't generally like steels either. Wondering if I should string them up now!
What strings do you normally use?
The Fodera steels are really smooth IME. I used to prefer nickels until I started using these.
Yeah I saw those. Had that dealer not stripped the B string from the packaged, you would have money in your Paypal.
Normally DR Sunbeams, D'Addario XL, or Circle K. All very smooooth nickel rounds.
I could see that, I was into pressurewounds and groundwounds before I tried them.
Yeah they wouldn't be priced that cheap though if it was a 5 string set
If you buy a 10 pack, the 5er sets get down to about $28 a set. Not bad at all IMO.
That's about the price for a single set at Bass Strings Online. He can do even better if you buy 10 sets!
Received my stainless set today in my preferred gauges directly from Fodera and it put a smile on my face, they're really in a class of their own. If you're tired of strings that clank and zing disproportionally from string to string you owe it to yourself to gives them a try.
