.......:scowl:Is this the guy ?I had called him out on selling parts basses, with parts he bought here on TB, as all original basses. Or something silly like that, its been awhile. It was very dishonest. He threatened to sue me for libel, which isn't exactly how a libel suit works...
He asked me for my telephone number and address so he could sue me for libel. And then also threatened to come to my house and beat me up...He was banned shortly thereafter.
Talk about my basses ... I keel you !

It would be a nice instrument if he re-fretted it, sanded it down all the way and refinished it. Don't like the idea of "relicing" the pickups... did they have lice before? And why would you want them again? Maybe they enhance tone...
relic bit aside isnt it a good deal at 400$ if you had the money?
Nobody will get it for that, reserve isn't met and the BIN is $900.
To each his own. Why did so many people repaint their 60's and 70's bass bodies? Who knew? Personally, I would rather have a nice finish with a few smoothly worn in rubbed off paint areas than a reliced one that looked all ripped up. Like relicing minimally with a buffing wheel as opposed to a grinder. Before you know it, people will be selling reliced skateboards, and this bass' body kind of looks like it was used as one.

I know Rob, have done business with him (bought and sold pieces parts), and have maintained a casual, albeit sporatic, association with him by email and phone. I find him interesting and knowledgeable on a number of matters in music (both of us are ol' farts who love Jazz). Above all...in my dealings with him - he's always been honest and forthwith. Outspoken? Maybe. I'm NOT into relic instruments (wear has to be earned) - but each to their own. As *I* respect and get along with him - I'm curious what one has had to do to get his goat
I don't want to get into fingerpointing, or anything nasty. But like I said, a simple Google search will turn up plenty of disturbing history on Rob and his reputation as an internet bully.
To your question of "what one has to do to get his goat", I'll tell you. Here are the facts: He posted an eBay auction with what was clearly a sunburst MIM body + Highway One neck, and tried to pass it off as a "special run USA bass" or some such thing. He was called out on it by serveral folks here on TB, including myself. His reaction was threaten everyone with lawsuits or physical violence. And since my real life name is my TB name, he was able to track me down and call my house, screaming at me and promising to fly to Atlanta to beat me up.
But kudos to you for avoiding his wrath. You are fortunate.

Yup, they're for mounting the felt mutes. The strip would need to be relocated.
Thought the phrasing sounded very familiar.
The bass looks like its been relic-ed by someone who has never played a bass nor seen a well-used one. If i recall who Rob is, then the above description should be quite accurate.
