For My First Time, TI Jazz Flats Incoming.....

TI's were delivered last Tuesday, but first chance I've had to put them on the Jazz Elite was earlier this morning.

My first reactions,

LOVE the tactile feel of the wrap.

The tension doesn't feel rubbery/loose when tuned down a half a step.

Intonation is so close as is, I'm gonna leave it alone.

Only action adjustments needed (right now) is a "slight" raise of the bridge saddle on the A string to stop a little fret buzz.
Outside of that the action is great!

Honestly, the playability is pretty much the same with the light gauge rounds I was using (40 to 100's), and the (43 to 100) TI flats.

I'll gig with both my Jazzes, one with Dunlop rounds, the other with the TI flats (through their break-in period), and see what my ears think.

I held off trying for years because of the cost and I bought them for my fretless PB and they sucked , but they sounded great on a fretted PB .........what can I say ?......good luck with yours .

People always write about the tension / feeling floppy , I bought the lightest gauge and they were not floppy at all........wish they were TBH .

I think you’ll find them useful once you get to know them. Some basses with these require a lighter touch and maybe a little higher action.

Yeah, I use the TIJF 344's, too. But, for me? I only have them on one particular bass (a '95 Alembic Epic), that I use for one particular musical genre' (Jazz), and they're the only strings that I never play with a pick. But, in that scenario? I've never found a better string - and, trust me; I tried a bunch of 'em...
For the great majority of the music I play, I don't need the harmonic overtones that TI's are famous for. And, for a lot of that music, what I need is "Old School Thump". Which is about the one thing that TIJF's are... well, just not all that good at. Too little low end and low-mids, with way too much mid-range and highs. For most of what I play? I'll take a set of LA Bella DTF's or GHS Precision Flats, thanks...
The other thing that they don't do well - for ME - is work well with a pick. I've played basses with stiff, to bridge cable stiff, flats for over 50 years - with a pick about 95% of the time. My playing is geared for those strings; so just picking the Alembic up and trying to play it with my usual pick is... well, let's not go there... I just always finger pick that bass - which I find works best for Jazz, anyhow.
But... yes, TI's are very nice strings. Even though they do take roughly forever to break in, and do sound... annoying... until they do. Especially the E and the A strings... Still, I certainly have no intention of replacing them with anything else...

I have them on all of my basses a 74 Precision,2003 FSR 70’s Jazz and and a 94 G&L Sb-2 and in one of my bands I tune half step down with not any issues!

I’m a long time TI jazz flats guy myself. Their high price is offset by their longevity. However, I recently tried some GHS Balanced Nickels round wound and love them also. So I’m now a two string lover. They each have their own unique sound, tension and feel. Experiment!

I'm just curious. Do you have the BNs installed on a P bass?

I've read a lot of reviews of the BNs and apparently they sound particulary good on a P bass.

I'm thinking of getting a set for my AmPro P that is currently wearing a set of Elixers. The AmPro sounds better with rounds than with flats or pressurewounds but I really don't like zinginess that most rounds have either, hence the Elixers. I still think that there's room for improvement so I've been thinking of either some half rounds, GHS Round Core Boomers, or the BNs.

Some local guy here been trying different flats ... so far he's unsatisfied with the sound so I bought another set of flats off him for like half the price. Lol. Now I got the Fender 9050 too. Put hose on my 78 Jazz. The TI is on my CIJ JB62 fretless.

I've always liked 9050s on Jazzes but not so much on Precisions were to my ear, they can get a bit nasally or honky.

Yes, installed on P Bass. Squire precision neck on Paulownia P Bass body, Aguilar pickup, passive.

This is what I always tell people as well. Flats tend to be very high tension so for people used to traditional flatwound strings the TI's feel low tension. But in comparison to roundwound strings the Jazz Flats feel very comparable. Anyone moving from rounds to flat will most likely not feel like they are "low tension" strings.
