@west*coast*bass - can you draw any comparisons to the Dimarzio Model J pickups? There is obvious form similarities with the adjustable poles. I think for the J pickup this is a really important inclusion, I'm really hoping a 5 string set becomes available.

Are the magnets ceramic? I know from experience the Model J pickups are definitely J sounding, but have a tamed top end and a little more in the low mids which I really like.

I have the model Js in my MJ4 and they're darker and more aggressive than the stock pickups.

ASSUMING this is somewhat like half an L2K pickup (L2K in single coil mode), I'd expect more mid presence and punch. In the video linked at the beginning that's what I'm hearing.

Model Js in a MJ4 almost seem like overkill. I had them in my ash-bodied JB2, and there was almost too much low-mid. My bandleader at the time would complain of distortion through the PA. I swapped them with my QMT/alder JB2 and struck sonic gold, with DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickups going into the swamp ash instrument. Oddly enough, only a few gigs later, I largely retired from frequent gigging, to care for an aging (now deceased) parent. Just when I think that I might wanna gig more often, COVID hits, and the USA-made JB2 has not been marketed for almost 5 years. It's gonna be VERY interesting to see what G&L cooks up for J-bass enthusiasts over the next year or two.

I actually hadn't had a chance to listen to that clip until just now.
I really like what I hear. It's definitely a J tone but maybe a little more bold, or maybe what I would call roundness....subjective terms I know.
All I know for sure it that is what I would like my Fender USA J V to sound like.

I think that's a perfect description. That's how I'd describe the L2K is single coil mode.
