My wife is a guitarist. She recently insisted that I buy bass number four, a short scale jag, so I'd have something smaller and lighter to travel with :)

And just maayyybe she wanted to have a short scale around for herself. Hehehehehe.

So I'm guessing that "giving her the dutch-oven" is something else than the cooking tool....
Anyway, should anyone be interested, which I doubt ;), the dutch word for dutch oven is "braadpan".

We always find ourselves spending our "Our Fund" money on stuff for the kids (4 of them), their spouses and our 2 grandkids. Cha-Ching! But we love it. That's why I do the separate Pay pal thing for musical stuff. My problem is occasionally buying household things using Pay pal and it comes out of my supposed music fund. My bad. Time to sell more stuff. Gotta have stuff to sell.

I have had this conversation with my wife early in our relationship. Basically I don't play sports so there is no cost going out to any events or equipment. I don't like to travel, love my life on the farm in cottage country and I work in the industry so the majority of what is purchased goes to paying bills. Now she encourages my GAS and more often the not is the one purchasing me gear :)

just like we've learned to live with ;... hair styling , finger nail crap , clothes , shoes , new drapes , towels , bedding , rugs , lamps , furniture , silverware , plates , pots/pans , etc , etc .... when all the current items are working just fine ... !!

Good points! My wife actually praises me in front of others for having a reasonable hobby, compared to sports cars, etc. Her hobbies are crocheting and running.... Not terribly expensive.
I'm pleased to say my wife does NOT like to shop, period. She could care less about the latest crap. We had to replace our little dinky refrigerator after 30 years and although we bought a "scratch-n-dent" model, we still suffered sticker shock, buyer's remorse, woulda-shoulda-coulda-isms for a couple months. Hopefully we're over it. Hopefully the fridge will last.....Anxiety attack....

Good guidelines to go by. Somehow my daughter took it upon herself to get her Masters in Psych and is totally digging her job. Still trying to sign the old Ford Escort over to her, although she pays all the reg, ins, repair parts, etc. Only problem is I end up being the mechanic. My frugalism just can't take it to a shop when I can fix it. My kids know this all-too-well. Pass the hand cleaner.

Hey man good for you that you even have a little money left after 6 kids and tuition. I'm struggling with 2 kids in preschool and kindergarten.

Here are the conditions:
  1. You have to take out the trash
  2. Mow, trim, and weed the lawn
  3. Keep the truck and the car clean and keep the maintenance up to date
  4. Perform roadie duties including load in, load out, keep instruments clean and set up, and run sound
  5. Keep the cat boxes clean
  6. Scoop the dog poop in the back yard
  7. Feed the dog and cats 3 times a day
  8. Keep the garage neat and orderly
