For the "my wife will kill me" crowd

Going to be that guy.....
We have an agreement that i cannot use house money to buy any kind of gear no matter the price.
If i want something i have to sell something.
Same goes for her hobby.
But i can use my own money to do what i want.
But having 6 six children and 3 of which are in university makes it so i never have much me money.
So the answer is i love my wife too much to break a promise i made to her so i never had to deal with that situation.

Don't get me wrong, she's very supportive of my music, but she also brings me back down to earth when I get distracted by something shiny that I don't actually need. She has allowed me to purchase the following items since we've been married:
Fender banjo, Yamaha acoustic guitar, upright piano, vintage Hammond organ, GK 700RB-ii, and an Ibanez GSR-190 as a backup bass. I'm probably still missing something. She's pretty good to me.

That's funny I asked for a Dutch oven. Well the real one not the bed time one.

My wife just rolls her eyes with new gear. As long as I'm not taking over the basement with gear and am able to pay bills she is just mildly annoyed. Which is her normal state of being.

Now I still need my Dutch oven.

We are fortunate enough to be able to spend money on our hobbies without it impacting the day to day stuff. And, she has always been used to me having one or more expensive hobbies. When we got married, it was yacht racing and music, now it is shooting sports and music. My most recent and expensive acquisition was a 2012 Precision Select. When I brought it home, her response was, "That's pretty." She has made one demand. She loves my Mike Kelly Dragonfly 5 fretless. I am not allowed to sell or trade that bass. She wants me to keep it out on a stand where she can see it.

In my experience, guns (and ammo) are way more expensive than bass! Boating brought me nothing but financial damage! Bass is my only expensive hobby now (aside from a case of ammo here and there and bike repairs), which is when the GAS grew to fill the void. We're going to spend some spare cash on something!

Oh, true that. The difference between the gun sports and music is every time I go shoot, it costs about $100. Every time I play out I make about $100.

And just like bass, finding firearms that fit your preferences can have you chasing "the one". Not to mention mods! Now I'm happy with one pistol, one shotgun, and 2 rifles (and have been for years). But basses amps and cabs still come and go... :thumbsup: so do the ladies.... :facepalm:

8 pistols, 4 rifles, 3 shotguns, spotting scope, reloader, tumbler, rugged gear 4 gun cart, plenty of mags and stacks of ammo.
Just before dove season every year, shotgun ammo goes on sale. I don't hunt, but I stock up for sporting clays.
2 amps, 5 basses, 3 guitars, complete PA system.
I'm pretty well set at the moment. But, I would like a Browning Citori and a D28. I have GASed for a D28 since 1970, just never could justify it because I pull a guitar out about every six months and play for a half hour. The Browning I would use once a month, at least.

Good answer and yes, college costs a freakin fortune just for one kid. How do you establish the house money vs the me money ratios. If her hobby is of similar cost to yours it would surely be easier. :-)

Yep, bass is cheap compared to a lot of hobbies, including band/orchestra instruments.

I buy and sell basses and guitars from time to time. I had a small little store for a couple years as well. It is kind of natural for me. When I buy a new to me bass, the question from my wife is are you keeping it or selling it. My response is always the same.. I am going to play it for a while and see. A couple times I have said I was going to sell a certain piece and she told me no. She wouldn't let me sell it. She has never told me not to purchase something. Ever. Really she put her foot down a couple of times and made me keep a couple. So I guess I have the opposite problem from the OP
