For those with 5 or more basses...

I only have 4 now... but I will pretend I didn't sell off my two 5 strings 
My favorite bass is my sunburst MIJ '62 reissue P bass. For some reason it speaks to me more than the other basses. I think a lot of it is the 7 year old LaBella's on it. Some of it is the small frets and the medium action. Some of it is just the vibe. The bass looks much older than it is. Everybody who has played this bass has raved about it.

I do not have an actual fav but my Rob Allen mouse gets me there on most gigs and its a blast to play, and it is so light.

Dude that owned the shop I taught in in Ft. Pierce, FL back in the mid 90's had quite the collection of vintage Fenders & Gibsons along with a few odd pieces, he kept them in his walk-in closet in the master bedroom. I was pretty good friend with he and his wife, so one Saturday afternoon I come in to teach, and she tells me that as he was getting ready to go play a gig the night before, he had opened the door to his guitar closet, put his hands on his hips, and said:
"I have nothing to play..."
Oh, and I only have 3 basses right now, so I can't play...sigh...

...of my current 43 basses I might get it down to a top 5 - I can't even pick a least fav, but there are a few that don't get much use & should be on the way out (to make room for more)...

6. 1991 Fender Prodigy (with Alembic gutz)
The '83 Spoiler must be one of the sweetest basses on the planet, ultimate playability (32 inch) and awesome sound.

Its hard to just have one favorite but its important to know what works the best in each situation.
The Jazz bass just kills it in the studio, thanks to the Amalfitano pickups.
The Broadcaster is the best for acoustic shows and radio instudio performances, intimate settings.
The Rickenbacker is the thickest meanest beast for live shows, especially in big out door venues or amphitheaters.
Wow! I thought I was the only person left with a Prodigy bass! Mines a '91 too, but it has EMG electronics and a Badass II bridge. It was stripped when I bought it.
Mine changes every so often. It was the Warwick $$, then one of the MTDs, then the EBMMSR5, and as of this weekend back to one of the MTDs.

I have 8 basses right now.
But my favorite has to be my Will Lee. For the first time in years, I'm only bringing one bass to a gig.

My Sting Ray 5 HH is my "goto"..That switch and 2 Big "BUCKS" make it stupid easy for me...

Out of 28, the Carvin Icon 6, with J99A pickups, is my favorite. Sounds great, plays like a dream, and looks beautiful.
Second is a cheap Yamaha BBG5A that sounds amazing. With the preamp flat and the pan in the middle (both pickups full), it has sat perfectly in the mix in everything from a country band, to acoustic rock, to blues, to classic rock, to metal. And it feels good too.
Those are my favorites for playing, but the one that means the most to me, because I've had it for 35 years, is this '76 Gibson Thunderbird. It was my main bass from '76 until about '95 or '96. We've seen a lot together. I really learned how to play on that bass.
So I guess I can't pick just one......

I don't plan on selling any of them. They all have their uses.

Lately, it's my "mutt" '73 Jazz bass. It's got a Badass bridge, a new neck from Warmoth and has had EMG's in it since around '92. The old neck was shot and as a result I hadn't touched it in years. Just got the new neck put on a month ago and I can't stop playing it.
Just ordered a set of Seymour Duncan Antiquity II's for it. In the mood for something differant and something passive. Should be killer!
