Good question - this is how I did it. For most everything I bought I would hang on to it for a good year or two and flip it before the market grew bored so the loss wasn't too great. During that time I'd save up a little more and a little more... so the new replacement item was another couple of inches toward "higher-end". Do this for 20-25 years and you'll be reaching for your Sadowsky-NYC one day and the ol' Zon the next. Patience, research, stay employed - that's the method.
