OK, this story is a bit off-topic, because not the gear was forgotten. A drummer forgot a whole session - night.
Two weeks ago I was invited to a rock - session with some dudes out of the three bands I play with. There are also only two drummers for three bands, the one drummer plays with me in two bands, the bands share a practising room. The third band has its room 20 km away from this place.
But - I don't know who was the father of this idea, maybe a keyboarder - they asked another drummer, unknown to the rest of them guys, for getting his gear on stage. Yeah, the guitarists of his band should play on this session, too.
I was asked to bring my gear for the backline. So I called the bar - manager, a friend of mine, and asked, when it would be ok to arrive. He told me, that he will be there at 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm would be fine, because it was planed to make a little soundcheck at 8:00 pm and we could talk a bit before. At 9:00 pm the session should start. OK, so I arrived at 7:00 pm. Nobody was there. Only me, my gear and some pieces of a small PA, two satelites, two subwoofer, a power-mixer, this was it. So I talked to the barman, installed my gear, made my sound (first time on stage with a MarkBass LM II and a Peavey TVX 210), played-along to some metal-songs from his stereo. Some guests, more ore less friends from the neigbourhood, arrived for a drink, came in and sayed: "Oh wow, you really did something with the bass-section of your stereo....!"
Later that evening, some more musicians arrived, bringing in theyr gear. The two other drummers appeared - but we still missed that one who was responsible for bringing his drums! At 9:00 pm I asked, where them drums should come from..... So they told me the name of a guy I know for 30 years, a nice guy, but 30 years of beeing a alcohol - addict wound up some parts of his brain.....
I told the man who was the organisator for this evening: "...so if you talked to "Drinkin' Dan" (name of the guy changed to protect the innocent), you should call him by now. I want to start lately at 10:00 pm because I want to sleep in my own bed!"
So he tried this several times. After a while he got connected with that guy and told him to come. "Drinkin' Dan" answered astonished: "I don't know about anything. What shall I have sayed? You must be kidding - I never aggreed bringing my gear to this place!"
OK, after sampling all the peaces of a cell-phone that was thrown to the wall we talked, what to do now. The way to my second practising room lasts for half an hour one way. The drums there are mine, a gift from a former drummer of mine who gave them to me as I helped him out a lot - and he knew that one of my two sons is interested in playing drums. Only a snare, two toms, a stand-tom and a floordrum. Two crappy cimbals, a hi-hat, that's it - a poor drum-set, but good enough to start. So we counted a bit - and everybody decidet to chancel the session. 1 hour of driving, 10 minutes taking it down, 10 minutes rebuilding it, soundcheck......
What a shame! F**king embarrassing! On this evening "Drinkin' Dan" lost the small piece of reputation he didn't "drink to pieces" until his time.... Such a completely ******...
