This is scary,military service is a "must" in Turkey and I'll be joining the force probably next year.I won't forget that there are weapons all around and a man can go bad at any time.

So he was a military shrink? That's just bizarre.
I'm glad that the media doesn't seem to be playing up the muslim angle too much.
I remember when the luby's masacre happened in Killeen. We had a cross country meet scheduled in Killeen that weekend and we were supposed to eat at that Luby's before heading back.

Yeah, for some reason the media doesn't what us to think he was a terrorist. Wonder why? I am not saying he was, but the way he did it sure fit the profile. Those were brave American Solders killed and we need to stand behind them and help fight with them, not against them. They need our support now more than ever.

They have, for the most part, been ordinary people who have just "cracked". The only real reason for thinking this guy was a terrorist that you could get from the media is because he was muslim. However, he was born in the US. If everyone were to start playing the "muslim sleeper" angle on this without any evidence, what good would that do? Very little I suspect, but it could do a lot of harm to society. How many people know someone who is a US born muslim or just a US born person with a muslim sounding name? Probably most people. I can't imagine it would do those people much good if everyone starting thinking they were perhaps terrorists (more than perhaps people already do).
I suspect the angle is being downplayed because the suspect is alive and the true answer will come out. If it turns out he wasn't a terrorist, but just another guy that cracked (as I hope is the case), then it would, IMO, be a mistake to start fearmongering by the media. If he confesses to being a terrorist, then would be the time to start reporting it as such.

A nuclear bunker? Or somewhere that you aren't surrounded by people who are highly trained to use guns to kill people? I would assume that a shooting spree by a member of the military would tend to be more deadly than one by a random member of the public, as members of the public are not trained specifically in how to kill people.
Anyone can learn to shoot to kill somebody, the part that makes a military base somewhat vulnerable, is the fact that most the weapons on base are locked up all the time. MPs and soldiers in the field training are about the only people youd ever see on base with a weapon.

It wouldn't, but justice will be served quickly and efficiently, instead of a long drawn out trial lead by his high profile ACLU attorney.
I don't care what his reasons were, he murdered 13 people, and shouldn't be kept alive with tax payers money. No need for a trial, everyone knows it was him, just do it.

Let me point out that this guy was not particularly well-trained by the military to kill people. Docs are notorious for being one of the two branches of officers (the other being chaplains) who are not really exposed to that side of training. He had cursory training in self defense, basically.
Any other training, he got on his own.
It turns our this guy was not only a terrorist, but according to ABC NEWS the Pentagon knew he was trying to contact al Qaeda recruiters and did nothing. Man what a mess this is. Wonder how many more there are in our Armed Forces? And why wasn't this guy challenged?

I watched the news all weekend and every single story made sure to impress on the public the idea that we should not speculate on the shooter's motive until all the facts are in.
And EVERY single story I saw from EVERY network then went on to speculate that the shooter may have cracked from the strain of being in the military (from the anxiety of waiting to be shipped overseas to the humiliation of being harassed by fellow soldiers for his religion. In the past few days I have seen numerous stories about "sympathetic post traumatic stress disorder" with the implication that the shooter may have been suffering from it.
I will just say I'm somewhat skeptical of this.

I think you should remember that he might not be the only one.. The FBI and Pentagon may have been monitoring him in an ongoing investigation to find others.
A lot of people have been getting upset about the fact that the FBI/Pentagon may have known about this guy, they are seriously jumping the gun. We may NEVER know why this guy was not approached if there is a serious ongoing investigation, it could seriously jeopardize any evidence.
That's not their stance at this point, though. They claim to have dropped the inquiry because he didn't pose a threat.
Given what's available at this point, I can understand the sentiment. They're not saying they may have known about him. They are saying they did and dropped it.
