Found a cool old bassist, need some help?

Just because he was convicted, doesn't mean he was guilty. If you met Art you'd realize he's a super gentle guy and wouldn't hurt a fly.
He was living by himself for 6 months in Sec. 8 after his exgirlfriend moved out with his son, and then the cops came knocking. Not knowing any better, he let them in, and they arrested him for the so called assault. She really just wanted the apartment, and you aren't eligible to get it if you have prior convictions. Everything was in his name since he was the only one in that chicks family who didn't have any priors.
Public defender told him he'd probably lose and to plead out for a 5 year probation and everything would be fine. Art's understanding was that if he kept his nose clean, he wouldn't have any problems. Unfortunately, he learned later, that he couldn't leave the 5 boroughs, and he if wants to take a day trip to see his daughter, its a big process.
I don't like spreading people's personal information, but in this case, I don't want Art to get a bad rap for something he didn't do.
As for the indescrepincies (I spelled that terribly wrong) the bass he sold in 07 was a cheaper Ibanez he had bought himself from what I understand.
Art worked for a credit repair company in the building my restaurant is in long before I met him. When I met him he was doing odd jobs to get money where he could. I had hoped to hook him up with a steady gig moving furniture, but that didn't pan out and he started working here washing dishes recently.
Yesterday morning after I got off work, me and my wife did our morning devotional and got to talking about seeing the good in a world that has become so blighted in so many ways and then I found this thread. I guess I need to read this forum more often and watch CNN a bit less.
He may or may not have assaulted his ex girlfriend? Who cares? I work in a drug rehab. I see people redeemed everyday.
It's sad to see musicians end up in his situation or any situation that is precarious at best. At the rehab I work at, their was a client who used to play in a band called "Sneaker" who had a couple of hits in the 80's. He also did a lot of gigs and session work on the side. Even though the demise of his career and personal life are entirely of his own doing this thread gives me hope that something will give and that he can become productive doing what he loves. He's a hell of a nice guy.

It's amazing how evil some people can be. Take away somebodys passion, kids and life. I wouldn't mind getting convicted for an assault charge on Art's ex-wife - she sounds horrific.
After seeing the video and how he seemed, I was hugely sceptical about the note in the paper on his conviction anyway. Glad you cleared that up further GE.

The conviction means nothing to me.... One of my closest friends pushed his exwife out of HIS house when she showed up , barged in and started screaming at him

The prosecutor met with him and told him if he didn't plead guilty he would be looking at a year in jail...
Just telling that story to show my point that these charges/convictions are often bullsheet
I'm not condoning domestic violence but it's often grossly exagerated
Art deserves the same shot in life as any one else ...

I loved the clip of him playing. I couldn't play like that if I had the most expensive Fender created. Very cool. And on an SX. It's the Indian, not the arrow, as we all say...

He's a super nice guy. Its a shame that his biceps are bigger than my head, which probably made him a bit harder to believe. The dude is so shy he can barely ask for a bowl of soup.

Cool article in the paper. Looks like the reporter got some of the details crossed, but doesn`t matter. As far as Art`s past charges, that is none of anyone`s business - period. We don`t even need to be discussing that here; this is a musician forum - what happened between him and his GF has no place here, really. GE addressed it, and said all that needs to be said about it. As for the Youtube clip.....WOW ! If Art can play like that after a several year layoff, it`s scary to think what he`s gonna be able to do in a few months, after "shaking the rust off". I wish I was that "rusty" !
