I recently got back a Foundation, that I owned before. Since I am still awaiting another another five, I ended up using the Foundation for the Men's Day program at my church. Much of the music was originally recorded on five string, but it sounded really nice on my Foundation four string. I didn't detune. I just played those D, Dbs, and Cs, an octave up. I forgot how nice a four can sound. I cannot say that I didn't miss the low notes, but I honestly don't think anybody in church cared including the choir director.
The other thing I really noticed was just how good that Foundation sounded live. When I had that bass last summer, I a/b'ed it with my old Fender Jazz V, and I thought the Fender had a much better tone. Live, however, the Foundation, which had new Cirrus strings on it, was much more agrressive sounding than my Fender. The tone was also much more scooped than a Fender Jazz Standard. If anything, it sounded very much like a Seventies Jazz. In fact, I hope to record of Luther Vandross' "Much too Much," because I can do a mean Marcus Miller imitation on it.
This is the third Foundation I have owned, and the second one I have played live. I can see why MNAirhead swears by them! The nice thing about it, is that this bass is about twenty-four years old, which means that it is nicely aged, and has that vintage mojo. The cool thing is that these basses regularly go under $200. The amount of quality you can get for such a small sum is amazing.

I plan on keeping this Foundation a while. I really need to do some serious family budget cutting over the next ten months, and I don't imagine I will have a lot of fun money. The two basses I will have by Friday are going to have to last me a while. Life is beating down my GAS in a way I could never do on my own!
