FPS video games and headaches...

I have spent some time playing various RPGs (and occasionally Guitar Hero) over the last few years. (Maybe 10 hours a week on average, but probably less.) Never noticed a problem with those.

Recently, I picked up Transformers War for Cybertron for cheap (a third person shooter). I got a major a headache after playing a couple hours the first day and wondered what happened, since I am one of those people who rarely get headaches. Although it may be a coincidence, I think the OP may be on to something.

I have also noticed getting irritable after playing, but only with this TPS. I previously attributed it to sucking and having to do over so many areas.

Anyway, I tired of the game (or got frustrated) and am now back to RPGs. No issues noticed any longer.

Sorry for getting back so late with this. Been busy.

I know for a fact that I get sick right after I start playing, so I am proof that something wrong happens, I dont know about it making people stupid, but there is no doubt that it has an effect on the brain, or it would not make me sick and get headaches! I agree that as soon as they started making one stick for body and one for head is when this all started.

It has do something to your brain because in the beginning you get "desensitized" and you jump every corner you turn the first few months. At least I did as a teen playing them. I can't agree more with this comment.

Don't worry - Black Ops gives everyone headaches :)

LOL I'm not a fan of any COD game.

This is what is crazy to read to me. I too never get headaches. It's a rare thing. I also never get sick to my stomach, or any headaches playing flight simulators in first person like Wings of Prey or whatever. So if the theory about screen size, being too close etc. was true then I would have been in trouble a long time ago from those.

It has to screw up your head somehow. The FPS violent games that is.

When I play RPG type games I too am fine.

Generally it comes from bad neck posture for me. It's pretty rare as I don't play that much anymore, but back in the day of 18 hour Age of Empires marathons it wasn't uncommon for me to get a bit of a headache. Come to think of it, that was probably more to do with not sleeping sitting in a dark room for horrendously long amounts of time staring at a screen..

So yeah, can't say I've noticed anything. I'll often not play any videogames for weeks, then pick up something new and play it non-stop 10 hours a day for a few days with no negative effects. That being said, I would have probably spent at least half that time in front of a computer screen anyway, just not gaming.

yea idk it makes my ears feel like they're tricked into a tinitus fit.

you know what I'm talking about. Like when an explosion goes off in like GTA4 or something similar and the sound rolls down the cut off and has a high pitch for a few seconds?

IDK that's the only annoying thing I really get bothered by in games of today.

I can say this FPS's do give me headaches on occasion when playing lengthy sessions. I'm not sure if the games do give me mood swings as I have been one to always have them. They very well could as I have been playing video games since I was 8 (I'm 23 now). But the headaches only occur if I'm playing a fps. I play a lot of MLB the show and some flying games with no problems at all.
