Fred had the most powerful positive energy of any human I've ever known. He was a living lesson in finding your own way. Miss that guy.

Been listening a lot recently to the Muhal Richard Abrams album 'Colors in Thirty-Third' - half the album is Dave Holland, and half Hopkins. The record is incredible, but the heavy, heavy swing that Fred Hopkins and Andrew Cyrille get into on the first tune is truly amazing!
Listening to his elegant, swinging playing on Buddy Bolden's Blues on the 4th Air album.
I've been listening to a lot of Fred Hopkins lately. I only discovered him fairly recently but he has quickly vaulted to the top of my personal pantheon. There is a live album from 1982 on Black Saint called "Judy's Bounce" (widely available on streaming services) featuring Jemeel Moondoc on sax, Hopkins on bass, and Ed Blackwell on drums. The Hopkins + Blackwell hookup is AWESOME.
I'm listening this afternoon to the David Murray album 'Special Quartet' which is with McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and Fred Hopkins. Fascinating hearing FH in the middle of that piano/drums combination - completely different to Jimmy Garrison but also amazing!
