Free, and horrendousley cool. I'd sand off the headstock, and put a Fender Q bass sticker or something just as nutty on it just to see what kind of responses I'd get.

That's awesome, congrats, there are so many killer split coil pickups you can upgrade that with. Myself I would repaint it black or candy apple red, if the routing allowed remove the pg and fill the screw holes or replace with a black one but with a different shape. And paint the headstock to match. I would love to see what you do with this thing. Empty canvas.

The First Act instruments actually have a weird cult following. One of my good friends has been rebuilding them and customizing them for some time now and has sold a few on reverb.

I didn't put in the quotation marks, and now I can't edit my post. I get Guitars like this all the time. My favorite line in an ad is "in good shape, but missing a string"

It's getting new wiring, and a Diamond plate "pickguard" The stock pickups will stay for now. I like the Blue, and I don't have a Blue one, so that willalso stay.

Have fun modding your Twisted 8 First Act bass. I almost bought one of their guitars some years ago to turn into a project, until I realized I had too many projects going already. Oh - if you are lucky enough, there was also a matching guitar. When you get around to upgrading the pickup, the '62 wiring diagram is available on-line and using 250 kohm audio taper pots and the typical .047 tone capacitor tames any thinness or over-brightness.

My Son-In-Law gave me this today. He found it by someone's trash can. This is a classic bought it for my kid, they never played it, sat in the corner for years collecting dust, and

Oh, by the way, make sure the neck is straight, and the truss rod works before you go any further. If that's the case, mod away, but if not, that's why it was in the trash.

First thing I did was give it full inspection---before I even wiped off the dust. The only thing I plan to do Immediately is replace the output jack and the ugly Pearl White "pickguard" I have new pots and cap, but the control cavity is routed for mini pots, and I don't feel like tearing the whole thing apart to re-route it for the full-size ones just yet. For the time being It will make a nice addition to the shop beater squad!

A little thing, I'd make the new pickguard with 4 holes instead of 8. Or even none and use a touch of spray mount.

I like that idea---I have Stainless Steel screws in stock, and 4 should be plenty to hold it flat.
