SBassman - yeah, I might put up a link that people can opt to donate something via paypal if they feel the need. Mainly because I get emails/comments by people asking if they can!
To date it's only costing me $20 a month to pay for hosting costs (oh that and my whole life working on music - hahaha).
Everyday more and more people are coming to the site. The ways it's going I'll have to up the bandwidth more and more so maybe that'll cover that.
But I think I owe it to people to keep the site free, simply because - well - to state the obvious - free jam tracks!
nbw - yeah - cool - some more reggae will be coming soon. ska - definately. Rockabily as well I'm sure as the Stray Cats are coming to town in Feb next year, I've got my ticket - love Lee Rocker. (his instructional video is great - even if you don't play an upright - and he's just one cool cat).
bebop - not sure about that one, I will have to try something - I love jazz and the styles around it but I'm not that good at playing it. Still - up for challenges so I'll see what I can do.
I've had long running issues with having a multi-track recorder - the one I've been using is actually borrowed from a friend (when I can get it). Hopefully tomorrow I'm getting my own - a new zoom unit. When that happens there will be no stopping me - the content on the site will go through the roof and hopefully I'll start getting better and better and be able to put up more variation, more styles and more challenging stuff for people.
Also going to put up some instructional stuff to help people new to music to get started.

I don't think you realize
- what a great job you did representing the different styles of music
- how great your bass lines are - great examples that are very accessible - easy to hear and play
You're only a coupla steps away from having a website that would have significant revenue potential.
Stuff you might want to consider:
- Bass transcriptsion of the first 16 bars of every tune
- Take a subset, make it accessible to all, keep that free
- Make all the rest of the material available via paid subscription
Then watch the bucks come.

Thanks SBassman for the comments. Especially regarding my bass lines. Much appreciated. I feel I've been improving of late and recording all these tracks is definately helping with that.

If it gets to that - what I think I'll do is start archiving tracks (ie older ones get archived). The new ones get put up available to all but after a while/when there is new content they get archived. And then if you want access to the archives - you can do something like pay a one off fee of $10 and you've got full access back (for ever).
Something like that. But I'll cross that bridge only when I have to due to bandwidth/costs.

Hey man, great stuff! I have been on vacation for two weeks, and barely practiced for the first week and change (I broke my G string pretty early on). Playing with stuff on your site motivated me to practice even with my now B-E-A-D bass, and I know that when I get home and get it setup and new strings I am going to be even more motivated than I would be otherwise. Point is, the site is great! I am definitely going to let my teacher know about it, and maybe he will show some of his other students the site, I can definitely see how it lets anybody improve.
I've just put up 2 new tracks. A laid back - rock/country type of thang and a reggae one that is a good bass jam.
I had the paypal donte button on each page but I moved it to the bottom of the about the jam tracks page so it's out of the way - I don't like having anything on the site that looks like I'm trying to cash in on something - but it's on there if people want to use it.
Money is not a very high priority to me - I just want to be able to play and share music with people.

I was going to suggest that lots of people on here could contribute their jam tracks to the pool but then I thought the standard would probably drop 
Just stick to what you're doing and others can follow the idea in their own way on their own websites.
Maybe I could upload some D&B, Jungle and other random electronic beats somewhere for the more digitally-orientated
Anyway, I think this should be a sticky... if you can handle the bandwidth, that is.

Hi CiaranDuffy - yes, I agree it would be a great thing for people to contribute what they are doing with the jam tracks. I don't want to load stuff directly onto the site cause that is just time spent on the site - in case you can't tell - I'm a bit of a hack of a 'webmaster' - I'm a webhack. Better to spend more time with hands on the bass than on the keyboard.

oh - by the way - I added 2 zipped files on the guitar front page. It's a test as someone asked me to do that so they could download the files at work - ie they can't download mp3's/wma files. So if that works I'm going to put up more zipped files. They aren't any more compressed as mp3's are compressed files by nature - it's just a way to get around office servers!

Was speaking to an I.T. dude at work about if I put up the site with a paid access area - it's too much work for me to bother. I'd rather have my hands on my bass. And I am not after money - it's just the bandwidth issue but I know what I'll do with that.
If the bandwidth in any one month approaches my limit - I'll just turn off the ability to download everything except for the newest jam tracks. And then make the older ones available when the new month clicks over. That'll solve the issue - too easy.

And then I am going to go absolutely stupid on it. Particularly for us bassists - so far all the drums tracks have been generic - because I didn't have the manual so couldn't program my own drums in there.
With the new functionality in the new zoom, the massive hard drive space and the manual (like the greatest american hero!) - there will pretty much be no limits (other than musical ability) on what I can do.
