Freeakish issue with Yamaha RBX270. Never seen anything like this before.

Picked up Yamaha RBX 270. What attracted my attention is that it had a P- pickup, Basslines Pickup on a Neck Position. On bridge position it has normal yamaha jazz pickup.
Here is the situation. When you set a knob so BOTH pick ups are engaged (middle position), indeed both of them do work, except... VERY QUIETLY, volume actually decreases by about half. When you move the knob to either ALL bridge or all neck - the appropriate pickup DOES turn on... and volume nearly DOUBLES.

The pickups are both passive, not like they are running out of juice. Anyone seen this this weird situation before? Any ideas?

Yep, pretty common, not freeakish at all. They're out of phase with each other. Flip the hot and ground leads of exactly one pickup, doesn't matter which one. Problem solved.
