Fretboard Radius

MammaryVest said:
I know radius is the measure of how curved the fretboard is (right?), but I don't have any point of referance. For example, I don't know if a tne inch radius is WICKED curved or really flat. Someone help?

If you are looking down at a circle with a 30" diameter, if you looked at the edge of the circle and cut a piece out as wide as your fretboard's width, you'd have a 15" radius curve matching the edge of the circle. If the circle was 15", you'd have a 7 1/2" radius. The smaller the number, the more curved the fretboard.

Take a narrow piece of cardboard (at least 16"), and poke a hole in the end. Mark at 10, 12, 16, or whatever, and poke holes. Tack through the end- this is the pivot. You've just made a compass of sorts. Now mark a piece of paper using the other holes, and you will see the curvature of each radius.
