I never join clubs as I change basses way to frequently. However, I am expecting a Mouse 30 on Friday. I am curious how I will react to the short scale. Long (35") has not worked for me. I am fine on a 34" - my current Lakland Skyline 44-02 - but have thought about a 30" for hand/pain issues. If I like the 30" fretless and it works for all my gigs (I'm amazed at how many people use these for funk, rock and other non-jazz type gigs) I would be happy to have it as my main bass. We'll see.....

Just arrived. Late 70s SD Curlee. 32" and fretless. Anything less than 34" is short-scale to me). This is my first walnut bodied bass. The maple necks on these old Curlees extend all the way to the bridge.

Loaded up with hot DiMarzios, this bass tremors. The strings need lowered in a bad way. I have already confirmed that the truss rod is fine - heck it has the neck pulled practically flat. I need to adjust the neck angle and bridge height, replace a sheared neck bolt and I eventually want to oil finish the back of this beautiful neck.

The Mouse has arrived. Initial impression is wow of course. Stunning to look at and sounds like an mic'ed up amplified upright - more than my EUB did.

The short scale is interesting but I like it a lot for this bass and style of music. I find I really like the fretless part. I may be looking for a more standard fretless as a main bass.

Once you get used to the sound/attack of a RA, a traditional fretless can sound odd. Especially if you get a Paradriver or equivalent and dial in some mids for when you want to cut.

I imagine the piezo has a lot to do with that, yes? Never played a RA but I have a few piezo basses and their tone is very different, like the entire string is alive and complaining about being manhandled.

Lots of people say that a piezo and tapewounds will get you there. Maybe. But after playing my RA for a couple days, I can tell you there I something special about these basses. You can feel the quality.

I live in New Zealand and would love a short scale fretless bass. Unfortunately there isn't a single model available!

I currently have a Squier short scale Bronco Badtz Maru, and Squier short scale Jaguar (both fretted).

Can anybody list off a/some mass produced (ie not a customised made to order sort) short scale fretless basses? I could probably order one overseas myself, although if I could find one made by popular brand I could get it through supplier by special order.

I spotted the SX SJB-62, as I've it seems to get a lot of air time in forums and review sites, tried to buy it from Rondo, got out of stock message. I emailed Rondo, was told thats a discontinued model and they currently have no SX fretless SS basses (?).

If I have some brands and model numbers to go off, I might be able to order one/some, but at this stage the only SX fretless I found was the SJB-62.
