Hard to go wrong with a fretless ‘ray!

I resurfaced an early unlined G&L fretless board and inlaid position dots under the E string. They line up well with the existing side position dots.

I thought I might need more dots elsewhere on the board, but I found I didn't need them.

I bought a roll of pinstriping tape to put on the “lines” on just the side of the neck facing me on my unlined. I’ve yet to put them on.

good idea. You can always take them off after you get the feel.

I got my my custom Stingray a few weeks ago and I feel the same way about my flamed neck. It looks nice for sure, but pretty subtle and nowhere near some of the examples I've seen on their site.

EBMM only gives Pau Ferro as the board option for fretless

Congrats... I hit the jackpot when I got my fretless 5HH flamed neck:
Regarding setup.... I posted on this just a few days ago... I think it comes from the factory way too high for the tones I like. I was just sticking with the factory specs for a while but was getting frustrated. I tweaked the neck to almost flat and now it's sounding like a fretless.

Yeah I’m still tinkering with the balancing act. I’m looking for a good bit of mwah and texture on tap, and still even playing across the board. I had it good but I got this horrid robotic buzz on the g string G#- I guess it was fretting out. Still tinkering. Doing this without measuring tools, mostly by feel.

A big problem I have is keeping the strings radiused in any way. They all seem to need unrelated heights to get that woody mwah.

Yeah, somewhat.

I'm really pretty close to getting it where I like it. I had to raise my B just a bit, but everything 'plays like butter' as the saying goes.

Try a small piece of paper or 2 in the nut. Sounds like it’s cut just a tad too deep.

My CDE Stingray is still a month away - I too ordered a flamed maple neck - hope it looks as good as this!
