Fretless String recommendations?

a violinist doesn't bend notes or create vibrato like that - you roll the end of your finger back and forth with wrist movement

Isn't that because the scale length on a violin is so short that rolling your finger back and forth actually changes the vibrating length by a significant amount (percentage-wise)? Unlike what it would do on a guitar or bass?

Sometimes it just takes a little experimentation to find out which strings work best on a particular instrument. I have basses that are the same model, yet they have different brands of strings on them b/c they sound different. One set of strings sounded great on one bass and didn't sound good on the other. It's very subjective.

I like flats on some basses and even with that there are several brands of flats that I'll try to see which ones match best with a particular bass.

I like Elixirs on my fretless. They are nickel round wound and the coating on them makes them last for ages, they seem to be a little gentler on the fingerboard (although using proper vibrato technique is more important for that) and they also have a nice slippery feel, which not everyone will get on with but it feels nice and slinky to me on fretless.
