Fretless tone question

How do you think this guy is getting this tone, pickup balance, strings, eq etc

It just sits in the mix well yet stands out for the short solo at 3:20 with a nice punch

That scooped sound with snap on top is both pickups on...Classic Jazz bass tone. Lots of compression on his sound, probably added post.
Good sounding cover band.

Yes, I think you're right about compression.
EQ, boosting mids or cutting bass ?
I think it sounds like flatwound strings.

Best guesses: Flatwound, EQ "scooped" with some Hi's added, somewhat more neck than bridge pickup, compression added post.
