New to the forum. Just realized I have a rare double bass. I have a blond frixo double bass with his label inside dated and hand signed October 1949. Bought it years ago to learn how to play, was an electric bass man, and never had the time to get into it. I read there were only 3 known to exist, now 4.

Double Bass Frixo double bass

You're correct that we have documented only three, and this one makes four. I'd appreciate it if you'd share detailed photos of the instrument to document it for the future. We don't yet have a good bead on how many Frixo was able to complete before his operation collapsed, but it wasn't many. The attached photos are of an unnumbered survivor from November '49, maybe the next younger sibling of yours. Note the fancy purfling here; the other two have conventional bwb purfling.

Great googly moogly. That is a detail I was unaware of. Beautiful.
No wonder he was freaking out when he couldn't get the good figured veneers for the backs and sides. Dude was really going for it.
