well I haven’t heard of Sebastian Hardie for ages. I used to get RAM religiously which gave me an awareness of bands that would otherwise have been outside of my awareness.
If threads could be blockbusters, this one has to be the bomb!

Deep Purple is among the first bands that were vital to my bass education!
When I got my first bass, in February 1971 (late '60s Jazz Bass), my "teachers" were Roger Glover, Mel Schacher, John Paul Jones, Geezer Butler, and Greg Ridley. The first song I ever learned on bass was "I'm Your Captain (Closer To Home)", then I went on to learn all the aforementioned bands' albums. Later that year I met a keyboardist who turned me onto bands like The Nice, Atomic Rooster, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, etc. We saw Humble Pie sometime that year, too (Glass Harp opened the show).
Same for me, except I had some great OZ players as well- but first bands were Deep Purple, Status Quo and Uriah Heep !!
Heep's second bass player was Gary Thain who was a very unique and melodic player- not really rock. I saw them in Sydney in 74 or so, right down the front with my mates.. First song we played in my first ever band with those mates was this song- we used to rehearse in a bird aviary at my place- true!..
But he had some great bass lines -
plus the 6 degrees ! another band that had Roger Dean on 2 covers- apparently this cover he had a broken hand when he had to draw the "Wizard" and used his left hand.
How's this for a cover ...
After Gary Thain passed away he was replaced by the amazing John Wetton- a true inspiration for me..His playing on Starless and Bible Black is astounding- and with Bruford !!. I kinda forget how much he influenced me..
Plus his playing on Bryan Ferry's albums and Roxy Music was huge- Don't get me started on the bass players on the Roxy albums!
I saw Sabbath at the same venue we saw all the bands in Sydney- The Hordern Pavillion- holds under 2 thousand- that's where I also saw all the bands that continued to change my life- Queen, Supertramp, Rainbow, Heep, Sabbath, Focus twice, Status Quo, AC/DC (many times)- all the great OZ bands- Sherbet, Ariel, Band of Light, Stevie Wright, Billy Thorpe, Cold Chisel etc etc.. INXS played there also, we loved it..
I still highly rotate and regard Supertramp- especially the Crime Of The Century- an amazing album.

I was at the Hordern for some of those, (I’m a Sydney boy) plus Skyhooks a few times. I really like Greg Macainsh as a bass player, probably from those days. I saw Status Quo there twice, 74 & 75 or 75 & 76 (whenever they were there). I remember one of the times they were supported by Kevin Borich Express and we were a little late but could hear KB across Moore Park.
I was going to ask if you had any Aussie Pop / Rock players that you enjoyed?
Also how do you like the Maton?
I loved the John Wetton era of King Crimson as well as all the earlier albums of theirs. I have only seen John once, on the first Asia tour, which was the first time I got to see Carl Palmer (I saw the Carl Palmer band in the mid '00s at a very small hall near here; Stuart Clayton was playing bass with him at that time. That Asia tour in 1982 was also my first time seeing Geoff Downes, who I later saw with Yes at that Cain Park (and the R&RHoF interview the evening before) show in August '13.
I had the vinyls of "Starless" and "Red" in the early 70's but at that time I wasn't at any level to try to emulate Wetton then- later when he played with Ferry and Roxy he became more accessible to me and his sound was huge ! We in the Farriss Brothers played Shame Shame Shame and Love in the Drug- that's when we noticed the name of Chris Thomas who became out producer later.
Here's Ferry "solo" with the Roxy guys- Thompson on Drums, Manzanera, Wetton and Chris Spedding.
These 2 songs from Siren still remain right up there as brilliant rhythm section efforts- The brilliant John Gustafason on bass -Paul Thomson on drums who was Bonham powerful - and Chris Thomas's sound was perfect..
And off an underrated album - Manifesto with Gary Tibbs (or Alan Spenner) on bass..
Crime of the Century is one of my all-time favorites as well. Great songs from a great band.
Yep.. But before and after that gig he was pretty well regarded..

So- so back to the original subject of this post- my Greco "CS" build- here is a video of the first test with the new Horseshoe I got from Argentina. 4.5K thereabouts and sounds GREAT.. I'll post a better sounding demo when I get into my studio soon. This is from my (temporary) messy garage..
Bow Wow Wow did have a great RS.. I'm biased against Adam A as our very first tour of tghe States was supporting him and he was not cool- Marco his musical partner was very sweet but Adam did not
Greg was a pretty unique player- VERY smooth and melodic. Always had a great pick sound. Good songwriter too.
Pickup sounds great, I like that fuzz, too. Has more of a warm, er, fuzzy sound than the other chainsawy pedal.
