fruityloops question

Hey sorry if this has been asked but i'm a noob at recording and i'm trying to set up something. I have fruityloops that i've been using for making my drum track to play along to but i'm wondering what i need to record my bass to that? I've heard i might only need a MIDI cable but i don't know. Anyone with a link or an answer would be much appriciated. thanks.

MIDI won't do for recording your bass. MIDI is a system to send instructions from one piece of equipment to another -- your keyboard could send commands like "play an E now" to your computer or another synthesizer, and it will go ahead and play an E. MIDI can't move actual sound around.

Probably you can record with nothing more than a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. Plug your instrument cable into that, then plug the adapter into your microphone jack. If you want to kick it up a notch, your amp may have outputs that you could use to move the sound from it to the computer. That will probably sound better than going direct to the computer. If you want to hear the amp as it is, you're moving into microphone territory.

it's not Fruityloops anymore....FL Studio.....unless you have a way old version?

at the least, i say you need to invest in a DI box, it will help a lot with signal. you can get one cheap enough and do it righ the first time.

im almost positive you cannot record in fruity loops, at least not the old version i have. Its a sequencer not a recording program. Even if you can record in it its not ideal. Download audacity or get a cubase or pro tools rig then drop your sequenced beat into one of those programs. Youll need some sort of audio card. Those m-audio fast tracks arent bad if all your going to be doing is recording bass and or guitar. A DI cant hurt but most of the sound cards have some sort of impedence converter in them that wont be any worse than a $30 behringer DI.

It's just a quarter inch jack wired up to an eighth inch plug. They're pretty easy to find.

well i found out its not fuityloops its the newer FL studio 6. Can i record into that or am i gonna need something like pro tools?

i've been able to record in "Fruity Loops" since version 3.X. FL 6 is no different. they do have versions that you can't record with though. there's 4 versions, which do you have?

and using FL Studio is just as good as using anything thing else out there. there are quite a few "big" name people using FL.

If i were to buy a DI box would it be a simple cable that i'd need to plug into my computer to start recording or would there be software and things like that to install as well?

$99 means yo have the Fuity Edition, therefore, you can't record in it. i'm not sure the cost of upgrade to get that though, i can't find it anywhere on the sire at the moment.
