Fun single pickup bass: Human Roxy

I had been looking for one of these for a while and thanks to a fellow Talkbass member I was able to get it. The Human Base Roxy is quite elusive indeed.

Killer electronics with a Glockenklang 3-band and Delano Xtender pickup with tap for parallel, series and single coil. Series is absolutely huge and punchy. This preamp and pickup combo is simply amazing. So easy to dial in a ton of tone. Unlike comparables like the Tobias Growler you can’t get a bad sound out of the Roxy. The Glockenklang is transparent and the EQ points are nice. The highs are centered much higher than I am used to but it makes for wonderful accentuation or attenuation of sizzle — in a really musical way. Can lean more aggressive like a Stingray but really thrives in punchy, articulate finger style. Really lovely tonally.

No neck dive. Ergonomics are really good. I love the look too. Mine weighs around 8.5 lbs. Unique and deep bolt on neck joint. The B string is stout and big sounding which can maybe be attributed the neck joint.

If you can find one, get your hands on it and give it a try.

The Bass Whisperer did an excellent review which is 100% accurate to what I am experiencing.



Anybody else have one? I haven’t had this much fun in a while with a new (to me) bass.

Is Siggi still in business? Haven't heard much about Human Base in quite a while.
I remember the introduction of the BassX model, which seemed to ignite the "deep-pocket bolt-on" trend back in the early-00's.

Very nice score! If the Roxy's sound as impressive as the OC's, then I'm thinking you got yourself a world-class bass right there!

I love it when someone finds their "unicorn/white whale/<insert metaphor>" bass! I hope it's everything you were hoping for and more!

Interestingly, it's body shape is a bit reminiscent of the Fender Dimension, so I'm assuming it balances very well in the lap and on a strap, ja?

Ooh...they have a couple OC-4's priced at $1550. Considering what basses cost these days, that is a lotta bass for the price. I'm diggin' the black open-pore one. I had a cherry-orange burst one long ago, top shelf components and materials, a finely crafted bass with a cool feature set. Dayum that's tempting! I wonder if they're original run NOS Korean-built leftovers.

I'll add that I recently picked up a Roxy 4 that was missing the trussrod cover. I emailed him directly and received a cover about two weeks later, free of charge! Ended up being the wrong cover but I'm still happy about the experience.
