Funeral Metal - how to play it?

Are there actually two metal bands which play the same genre? Is for example every Djent band just playing Djent, or does each one play a sub genre of Djent, such as Funeraldoom Djent or Blackdeath Djeant?
Are there more bands than there are genres and sub genres?

Serious questions.

Metal is a massive genre, the sub-genres help to define the band and helps the listener to find them. That argument has been done to death. I find it funny that the majority of people who whine about the sub genres barely listen to an array of metal.

Anywho, to answer your question. The answer is phrasing and don't try and fill the void. Whilst not the most technical, the bass players that have played for Saturnus is probably the ultimate definition of how to do it right.

I highly recommend listening to I Long, fantastic playing and phenomenal bass work at the end of the track. It is a real work of art.

Apart from the growly vocals, that sounds like the sort of power ballad that makes audiences wave their cigarette lighters around. I wouldn't have classed that music as "metal" at all. What am I not understanding?
