Funk only forum??

Also why is it that in almost every metal thread there is some Jazz/Funk/Fusion snob that has to pipe up and slag metal. If you don't like metal - fine. I don't like solo bass wankery(while I do respect the talent and dedication involved) but I don't chime in on every post about it and say it sucks. It's just not my cup o' tea.

I am a metal head thru and thru but I dont like playing it. To me Metal is more guitar driven then any other style of music. And that bores me as a bassist.

It's what you put into it, feel free to go to my myspace page and listen to Jack Booted Thugs, an original instrumental piece my band does. It grooves, it thrashes, there's melodic spots, there's some tapping and pop and slap, it covers a lot of territory. Metal doesn't have to be riding one or two notes for a progression. I use every tool I have when writing a song, whatever the style may be.

Quoted out of context if you reread I said there is alot of talented metal bassists and also not all metal follows that statement.

But a good amount of Metal does its sad but true no pun intended.

I am listening to your track sounds good, sounds like something Satriani would be playing behind..

Metal is guitar driven though this is fact.

I love metal as much as the next guy I grew up on it. I lived it. I love it.

But I would rather sit down and learn a Jamerson tune then a metal tune. Now thats me its not snobbish because I respect anyone that can play a instrument. Its just my opinion. :)

I love metal. I love playing metal on guitar; however, with a bass around my neck, I would much rather play funk or motown. I find most metal bass parts uninteresting (I will admit I may not be listening to the right bands for interesting metal bass parts).

I also don't have an Ibanez tuned down to C :hiding: :)

Of course they'd be completely wrong...but they can keep their metal!

Hey, I wasn't the one that brought it up and I wouldn't have mentioned if someone else wouldn't have said "Metal is for teenagers and old men who don't know when to quit". And like I said I don't have a problem with fusion or any other type of music except bad pop and bad poppy new country. I might not like everything I hear but that doesn't mean I feel the need to slag a particular genre and the people who enjoy it in thread about that particular genre. Know what I mean.

I knew exactly what you were saying, some metal bass lines bore me as well, I don't listen to that stuff, I prefer it progressive like Dream Theater. John Myung is a pleasure to watch and listen to. Metal is based on the guitar but there are some bands where the bass is the equal. That's my cup of tea.

You probably noticed we do some Jazz and R&B based stuff as well, we're doing lots of different stuff. Bass is too interesting to settle on one musical style.

Try these guys they are amazing.

its all the same stuff everyones been saying, that is guitar driven stuff, the bass is just following what the guitar does. theres nothing wrong with metal but there really isn't much going on bass wise so it won't get much coverage on a bass forum ( i am aware this is not the case for all metal )

Seen Alex Webster do some cool stuff in clinic vids, etc. However, I can't get past Mr. Corpsegrinders "vocals". I like my yelling/growling mixed with some melody (Killswitch Engage, In Flames).

I like Opeth and DT (a bit more prog than metal). Will give some of the others a listen though.

I'm sorry to destroy your illusion but in metal the guitar STILL follows the bass guitarist.
