Funkiest non-Black bassists :)

I don't know if I'd consider Duck Dunn "funky" per se - but definitely had "Groove," like Jamerson.

My Vote goes to Neil Jason from the Brecker Brothers doing Some Skunk Funk live at the North Sea Festival (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IAm0FyDnnM). Go to 5:30 in the clip. Wooten before Wooten could walk.

Watch and funk. :bassist:

You're welcome.

I thought Neil Jason was Black. Guess not!!! LOL There ya go! I was victim to the "being so funky I thought he was Black" thing. LOL!!

Flea and Tal Wilkenfeld immediately come to mind. Anyone that doubts Tal's funk credentials should check out her solo and performance of Sly Stone's "Thank You (Fa Lettin Me Be Mice Elf)" with Dumpstaphunk at the 2008 Warren Haynes Christmas Jam. Its available for streaming and download at the Internet Archive - Invalid Link Removed

I love Rocco but Bobby Vega is funky as hell!! One of the few who can actually do Rocco and then some!

Brian Bromberg can get pretty damn funky too. Prince Paul (Peterson), Paul Turner, The 2 AWB cats, Dodge, Freekbass, Peter Muller are just a few off the top of my head!

To the cats who said Stu Zender.........while Stu is a great player, I don't think he could hang with some of these cats. Y'all need to get out more and hear more bassists! There's a dude from Australia (name escapes me at the moment) who is off the hook crazy funky! Maybe the Aussies here can help me out with a name!

I'm not sure Bobby Vega would consider himself white for whatever that is worth.:)

It has been my experience that funk is just a style of music, and a musician who has studied it can nail the feel. The funkiest dudes I have ever seen who were not funk players were all great bassists that I saw in Nashville when I used to go there all the time. I remember seeing this one guy who was Johnny Cash's bassist totally kill a bass solo on a cover of "Skintight" at a nightclub. I cannot remember the bassist's name, but he was a Carvin endorser back in the 1990s.

I gotta go with jaco, carol kaye, and one more whose name I'm blanking on.

Honourable mentions:, Dave Holland, Phil Lesh, Cole Parzenn (that guys awesome), and Mark Dresser.

Wow  I'm a believer. That clip is a must see.

Liked his sound on P-Bass better though.
