Funny Story.....

I was in automobile sales & management for twenty-five years, and can't count how many times I've seen a "second baseman" ruin a great car deal for a friend or relative by trying to show off his "knowledge" and negotiating chops.
It would crack me up when the advisor would crawl under a like new, 7500 mile Honda, and look for oil leaks, etc., then offer thousands less than I paid wholesale for the car!

I find it amazing that these tire-kickers will waste Your time taking Your stuff for "a spin around the block" with no intentions of buying or making a reasonable offer. I find it more disturbing that they have the time to waste on bothering someone with there non-sense.
I guess this is all proof that some folks have no sense of respect for other people's time. Mostly I think it is just a lack of good manners, which seems to be rampant these days. I hold these folks in the same regard as the guy at the convenience store check out counter who is holding up the line for 30 minutes buying $50.00 worth of lotto tickets, a beer, and two cigarettes.....

Same here! I would have said something when he went to get his bass out of the car if not sooner.
yeah, I too have had a guy come and wank away on a guitar on his own amp.
I had to tell him several times to turn it down as my kids were sleeping.
After 20 minutes or so, I reached over, snapped the amp off and simply said: So?????
He did buy the guitar so its not as bad, but I was within a hair of kicking him out.
BTW..sounds like an awesome deal, like you have approx 150$ in upgrades.
Stock MIM' usually get 300$.
I'm sure it would sell here pretty quick.

I loved the story, however if it were me I would have told him to make me an offer. Then I would have laughed in his face. The upgraded parts alone cost you more then the $300 you want for the entire bass. And its not like you have a piece o'crap.

I ended up selling it to a friend, who loves it.
Yeah i really dont understand how some people think that thats ok, to be like that. i would never even think of doing that to someone.
oh well. Lesson learned. I dont use CL unless i HAVE to now. Anyone ever run into someone on Craigs who offers something that you want but then when you inquire, they say "im not sure if i really wanna sell it, i just wanna see how much i could get for it"?
I sold used cars, owned the lot and did very well. If a young couple came in with limited resources needing reliable transportation, I steered them toward the vehicles I thought (knew) would serve them well, and gave them the "friend" price. Wholesale, if you will.
Then there were the @$$holes who thought they knew everything about cars and how to take car salesmen 'to school.' Their theory is that the bigger @$$hole you are, the better deal you get. They paid full price, and often did not get good cars.

CL is a mixed bag for sure. I got a smokin' deal last year on 2 decent elec guitars & a cute little practice amp from a college student who was moving. but yesterday I called a guy on CL about a bass amp he had listed & he was a total flake.
This made me laugh out loud and made me feel better. I've been trying to sell my basses on CL for about 4 months now and I cannot believe the ridiculous offers I've gotten, I was afraid I was doing something wrong.
Another thing that surprised me, I sold two basses this weekend and both people expressed amazement that the instrument was exactly as I described. Is really to the point that so many freaks, liars, hucksters, and swindlers are on CL that when an honest deal comes up no one believes it?
I've had similar 'offers' for my merchandise. Over the past nine months I've sold (through craigslist) two basses, two amps, and a telescope, and each time I get this one nimrod who wants to trade his expert tattoo work for whatever I happen to be selling.
The good thing is, that other than knocking $25 off one of the amps, each of the items sold for my asking price. The smart people who know what they want and know what things are worth are a pleasure to deal with.

I use CL a fair amount for both buying and selling stuff. I can generally weed out the liars, hucksters and swindlers before meeting anyone. The freaks are a different story, they're just part of the scenery here in Los Angeles and really can't be avoided.
I rarely find anything on CL that is better than the ad description, but it happens once in a while. I see lots that are pretty true to the ad, and a notable few that are way worse. It's just a hazzard of the game and there's no getting around it; if somebody is full of crap, they'll be full of crap in the ad and on the phone and over email and you just don't know until you get there.
